Swiss Skydiver wins Preakness

Awesome move on the turn followed by a gutsy and fast stretch duel with Authentic!

Am I reading this right? Time was 1:53.28? If so, second fastest Preakness ever, to Secretariat’s 1:53? Is that possible?

That was a great race.

Swiss Skydiver doesn’t look like she just ran a race. I wonder if she’ll in run the Breeder’s Cup now, and which race?

What a filly! Brilliant race!

I thought a very exciting race. Swiss Skydiver and Authentic were clearly the class of the field.

The filly held on for the win. I could see coming to the wire the size different between Authentic and Swiss Skydiver.

Will Swiss Skydiver be in a Breeders Cup race. I suspect yes (as it isn’t the Breeders Cup but a BC race). Choices would be either the Classic or the Distaff.

She’s shown she can run against the boys, but will she?

There was much yelling with excitement at our house. I won bragging rights because I picked her as the winner.

I get lobster!

She really gutted out that win. Good for her and her connections!

Second fastest Preakness ever run; clocked at 1:53.28. Secretariat took the 1973 Preakness in 1:53.

Is it just me, or was authentic distracted by her beautiful filliness while they were on the stretch? I had the idea that he was trying to give her the eye.

He may have wanted to, but he was getting his ass whupped by Johnny Velasquez. As I said on the other thread- that is one gritty filly!

Paid trip to the Breeder’s Cup- I wonder what race they will put her in?

That was so much fun to watch!
Really was rooting for Art Collector ahead of the race. And had liked Swiss Skydiver earlier this year, but puzzled by The Oaks.
Then when the announcer said what a strange year it was, thought “Yep - should put something on the filly. Wouldn’t it be something if she won?”
Such a stretch duel!
And so happy for Robby Albarado - who was aboard for Curlin’s Preakness win.
And she is built! Watching the replay, she’s much broader than Authentic.
Happy for the connections!

Maybe he can get his name on her Dance Card next breeding season :love-struck:
She is going to have quite a few on there…

I almost did not watch, but glad I did.
Those 2 had the track to themselves :applause:

I’m hoping that next year we’ll see Swiss Skydiver racing as a 4YO and maybe even 5YO. I get why nice horses are sometimes retired at the end of their 3YO season but I also enjoy seeing quality older horses on the track as well.

I agree, don’t know where the rest of the field was but the class of the field was obvious. I think it would have been a tough beat for whichever horse finished second between the two. Stretch runs like that are one reason I love watching racing.

When people talk about their breeds with justifiable pride, I’ll just cue up the 2020 Preakness.

This is what the Thoroughbred is all about.

Lovely race. It was so fun to watch. I’m sure we will all be following Swiss Skydiver’s career; she’s fabulous!

I hope she does, though it’s doubtful. I’m not sure she can get by Improbable.

But, but, but… I didn’t think she could get by Authentic. Authentic was either 1 or 2 the entire race (according to the chart). Swiss Skydiver drifted back to 3rd and eventually 5th before the brilliant move by Robby Albarado coming up on the inside of Authentic with 1/2 mile to go. Once she had the lead, she never gave it up.

Is Improbable “better” than Authentic? Maybe but who knows who will be in the gate and where and how they’re running.

When, during the week of BC, would Swiss Skydiver’s connections need to make that call of Classic vs Distaff? I believe that she can be entered in both but at some point, gotta decide which race.

Wow, did you see her equibase page? She was a $35,000 Keeneland bargain.

I have to say I never want to see camera angles live from the blimp ever again. I don’t care how much sponsorship money they pay - that sucked. Show it afterwards if you have to, but NOT during the freaking race.

Why do the Euros have such superior live racing coverage? Their camera placement and tracking is so much better than anything we ever see in the States.
