My 2 year old Airedale Terrier has bad allergies and has been scratching her face/and licking her rear end. I put an e-collar on her so she would stop destroying herself while the allergy shots kick in. Anyway, the bottom part of her anus is REALLY swollen. Anything to do for it??? I’ve been cleaning it but it’s not worth an emergency call/visit on Memorial Day Weekend.
If you have any SSD ointment that is a good thing to put on it! If you have A&D ointment that can help too (as long as it doesn’t contain zinc oxide).
Benadryl could help too.
Could she need her anal glands expressed?
Try some benadryl. 1 mg/# every 8 hrs may help.
If she has the E collar on you can also try some cortisone oinment or spray.
A cool compress a couple of times a day may help too.
GENTLY and CAREFULLY trim any hair away too so it isn’t holding moisture from the inflammed skin and licking which will aggrevate it more.
Desitin and other baby rash stuff may help too but I would try those last.
So long as nothing is pooching out and there is discharge/goopy stuff you can prob wait 'til Tuesday. And as long as she eating/drinking/pooping/peeing/acting her otherwise Airedale self.
Preparation H is real good for reducing swelling. I know she probably doesn’t have hemorhoids but if women can use it on their face to reduce puffy eyes you’re probably safe using on your dog’s butt.
