Synthetic Western Saddle

I’d like to get a western saddle for very light trail riding. I’d like to go with a synthetic because of the weight (horse is 17+ hands). Are there any brands to look at or definitely stay away from?

Teskey’s makes a nice synthetic barrel racing saddle, might be worth a look. I know you want it for trail riding but it is very light weight.

I’ve got an older Wintec that I like a whole lot more than I thought I would. It has held up well, is light and easy to handle, fits both the mule and horse quite well (with different pads), and is surprisingly comfortable. In fact, I’ve tried several other, nicer, saddles on the mule and keep going back to the Wintec.

I have a Wintec that has held up for at least 10 years of pretty hard use. I’ve used it on all different shapes and sizes of horses without any major fitting issues. I also find it to be one of the most comfortable saddles I’ve probably ever ridden in. Regardless of brand I would say to definitely go with something made out of the “dura-leather” type material rather than the more fabric-like material that some are made out of. Makes it really easy to just wipe down when it gets dirty.

I have a Circle Y synthetic saddle for trails, and it is lighweight and super comfortable.

Thanks all! I was looking at the Wintec already but will also check out the other brands.

don’t overlook the abetta saddles

I had a Big Horn that I loved.

I have a friend who bought the circly y synthetic and she loves it. I’m thinking of getting one too

One thing I liked about my Big Horn was that it did not have Blevins buckles. I hate Blevins buckles.

I have an abetta that is 20+ years old and still in good shape, but I find the fit is very hit or miss depending on the horse. Fabtron has a really nice synthetic saddle with leather points. They make one specifically for women with a narrower twist also.
