Need a new pair of boots. Looking at the Equi Fit Exp3. Anyone have experience with tab closure on boots vs velcro? Have the option on the Exp3’s now.

I am a fan of boots that have the tab closure! I feel that they are more secure and last longer since velcro tends to wear out over time. I own a pair of Equifit open fronts, and the tab closures have held up through years of use and are still going strong!

Perfect!! Exactly what I was needing to know!! Thank you!!
If you have a sensitive horse, Velcro can sometimes be better because the fit can be altered to the millimetre. With the tab closures your horse needs to have legs that correspond to the two or three options in order to have a perfect fit (and with certain horses they can slide if you’re between sizes and don’t want to make them overly tight).
Tab closure on the Equifits are way better. I have both. The Velcro closures are hard to keep closed because of 3 reasons: 1. Equifits run small. So when the straps are pulled over to attach to the Velcro, they are hard to keep closed from the tension. 2. Exacerbated by sand that clogs the Velcro. 3. Worse in winter because the foam is not as soft so they are even harder to attach (until the foam softens with the heat from the legs.
A long time ago I bought the velcro Equifits because I always have purchased velcro fastening boots. They were horrible. The velcro died within the first few months of using them. I was able to return them to the store and traded up for the tab closures and those things are 4 years old and look new still.
One heads up with Equifit boots they run small. My horses took the XLs.
At the EAP clinic Anne was sending students (or their parents rather) out to buy velcro because she said the nice tab and buckle leather equifit eq boots were too tight. Something to consider.
I had equifits and I liked them for about a month. Then they stretched just enough that even the tightest option was not tight enough.
I am now back to velcro and am still using boots I have had for many years.
I haven’t used the Equifits, but as a general rule I think velcro gives a more adjustable fit, particularly if there is elastic which tends to stretch over time/ use on multiple horses.
Some boots now, like the eQuick, come with velcro you can switch out when it dies. I’ve had good feedback on those though, so far no velcro issues.
My everyday boots are Velcro Professionals Choice. My show boots are the tab ones. I prefer the tab ones because they seem to keep out more dirt. However, I like that I can alter the tightness of my Velcro boots.
I prefer the tabs on my guy just because I think they look much cleaner, but he has pretty standard legs, fitting on the middle hole on his Veredus boot tabs.
I would go back to Velcro on a horse that had legs that were too narrow or thick for the tabs to fit well though.
