Tack Trader - Anyone Else Getting Lots of Scammers Responding to Ad?

I haven’t sold a saddle in a while, and in the past did eBay, with no issues. However, seeing all the posts on here recently about eBay problems for the seller made me nervous.

The $10 for a photo ad on Tack Trader seemed like a good deal, and the saddle I’m selling is a popular brand/size/model for trail riding. It’s the type of thing I’d at least check Tack Trader for.

However, all I have gotten so far (posted ad on Saturday) are three different variations on the cashiers check scam.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m seriously considering just pulling my ad because I don’t want to waste my time dealing with this craziness.

I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar experience, or if I just hit it at the right (wrong?) time?

Yes, every time I’ve put anything on tack trader I get the scammers. I won’t use it anymore.

I did recently sell my saddle on there. However, I did request that after the first email that ALL contact be by phone after I was strung along by a tire kicker. I did also get several scammer emails, I just reported them and deleted.

Glad it’s not just me! They do seem to get a lot of traffic, so I’ll leave it up for a bit, and if it gets too annoying it’ll be back to eBay

I got scammers on both Tack Trader and Dressage Star (though Dressage Star has someone you forward them to and they are blocked). I suffered through them and successfully sold saddles on both sites.

For me, it seems the scammers e-mail when the ad first goes up, then they drop off, so I wouldn’t delete your ad quite yet. I have sold a few saddles via tacktrader, both to local folks and long distance requiring shipping. Just have to cull through the scammers for a bit!

I got absolutely zero legit replies on Tack Trader. I won’t use them again.

This is the very reason why I’m starting my own tack selling site. I’ve started writing down things I hate about other sites and hope that what I come up with eliminates all those problems.

I’ve been getting texts from weird area codes asking if my “item” is still for sale - and then when I ask them “which item?” they somehow can’t remember and want me to list all of them. Actual interaction:

+12488864999: I’m interested in your item listed on tracktrader and i will like to know if still available.
Me: Which item? I have a few
+12488864999: can u send me the list on the item u posted and the price i saw lots of items on the site

Are you on Facebook? I would try listing your saddle on the English Tack Trader group (or Western Tack Trader if that’s what you have) as well as any local tack sale groups to your area. I’ve sold about $1400 in used stuff on there since May.

Nuggets - I got that same text message (from a different number), and pulled my cell number off the ad after that.
