Tack Trunk Replacement Hardware

My 20+ year old tack trunk needs new lid supports. Both of them are now broken. Can anyone recommend a source to buy these? I have one of the old ones like they sell at McGuinn.

Local hardware store s/b able to supply these:

That won’t work. The entire thing is broken. That’s only half of it.

Remove the entire part, take to hardware store & find what you need.
If they stock the support, they will also have the other parts needing replacing.

Take a look at Kelly’s Tack. They have the spring loaded hinge sets for heavy lids.

You can get those from the original manufacturer. I know Phoenix West makes those spring hinges. I’ll bet those would work on a McGuinn Farms trunk. Oh, and Phoenix West used to be Warner’s back in the day, so don’t be afraid if you have an old Warner’s tack trunk and need parts.

McGuinn sells those… they are $22 as an option when you order… I am sure they would sell you replacements.

Is it a McGuinn? If so just call them. They have all the hardware!

I’m rebuilding an older tack trunk and wanted to upgrade the lid supports. Here is what I found. I think it looks awesome. but i have only ordered it and have not put it on the trunk yet. [h=1]Stay Lift Cabinet Door Adjustment Guide by Dura Supreme Cabinetry[/h]

That won’t be strong enough.

Go back to McGuinn.

Also, I know Phoenix West will sell that replacement part:

Look at the lower picture and the things that look like open pocket knives. Those are lid supports. Do those look like what you have? You can attach them to the wood on the inside rim of the lid and the side with small screws.

I would replace both sides at once and be sure to get them even/level. That might be a bit of a trick because the old screw holes might be too large/rotted. If you decide to move the points of attachment at bit, you need to measure carefully on the lid-side of the piece, and also do the same on the other side.

Good luck!
