Tad Coffin saddle markings - what they mean

Anyone know what the following means?

A5G
1978
8075
0404
?-888
827-2335

In that order, and the ? Is a ? (Not that I couldn’t read it).

I know the A5G is the model
0404 is the production year
The 888- is their phone number. Don’t know why the ?

I’m wanting to sell it and would be helpful to know.

Thanks

It’s the A5G tree model
1978 is the serial number
8075 means it’s an 18.0 seat with 17.5 flaps (though Tad’s seats run small so probably fits like a 17.5)
0404 means it was made in April of 2004
And ?-888-827-2335 is Tad’s phone number. No idea why the ? instead of a 1

I always thought the ? maybe meant if you have questions (?), call this number. All I’ve ever seen are stamped that same way. Agree with the interpretation of numbers above, although I wasn’t sure if 8075 meant 18" seat with 17.5 flap, or the other way around. You could call or email Tad just to ask.

Great, thanks! I knew it was a 17.5 or 18 and figured that was part of it. I had one before this and it didn’t seem as complicated.

Good point, horsepoor, about the ? All these saddle makers seem to have their own language!

This helps so much! I have been trying to decode mine for a while!

She’s correct. Seat first, flap next. Speaking as someone who just bought an '07 8075. If there is only one number it is because the flap is the one that comes standard with that seat size.

So just measured the seat and flap and they don’t add up! Flap is 13.5 at widest point, 14 long and seat is 17.

They do run small, but I always thought it was more like a half size usually. And I’m not sure it is clear, but an 18 flap means just the size/shape that would be on his standard 18" saddle, not that it should be 18" long (maybe you know that, but I thought I’d make sure!).

Thanks all! Just posted it for sale on eBay. Hope it sells.

The flap number corresponds to the standard flap that goes with a seat size…not actual flap measurements.

For example: An 8075 has an 18" seat and the flap for a 17.5" seated saddle. An 7580 would be a seat size of 17.5 with the flap for an 18" saddle. A 6065 would be a seat of 16" with the flap for a 16.5" seated saddle. A 75 would be a seat of 17.5" with the standard flap the comes with a 17.5" seated saddle and so there is only one number.

I tried a used Tad tonight. The flap is marked 8075X- so does the X indicate a wide tree?

I don’t know for sure but my guess is that it is a 17.5 forward flap.
