Tail pad for trailering

My new guy loves to lean on the butt bar in my trailer tearing up his tail. It is a large trailer and he fits easily. What would be a good tail pad for trailering that stays? I did wrpa his tail with vet wrap on the trip out but didn’t bring the roll for the return trip and now I regret it.

If you google “butt bar pad” for trailer, you will find some. They are generally foam with vinyl covering, not expensive. However I’m not sure that would necessarily protect the tail if he’s a leaner.

All of my ponies are perfect rubbing height at the dock of their tails in trailers - and whenever we arrive anywhere if I don’t use the wraps, their tails are a disaster! Plus it breaks all the little hairs. I use the neoprene tail wraps that Professionals Choice makes. But I also have a few cheapies/no name brand and they all work well. I purchased those from Greenhawk

Didn’t really have a leaner, but did have a horse the perfect height for his tail to rub against the butt bar; used the vinyl-covered foam sleeves mentioned above.

Not to derail the tail conversation, but: Diamond, what kind of trailer do you have? Its an interesting layout.

I use the PC tail wrap (velcro) too, for my leaner, works well & not expensive. I’ve had it at least 10 years , maybe more.

Agreed! How wide are those stalls???

It is a custom built Cimmeron. 52’ long and 8’ wide with LQ. Its for carriage driving so we needed the 3 stalls in the back and a gate in front of the ponies. Then there is 18’ of open space for 2 carriages and a 4 wheeler and then room for harness - with a side ramp. She’s a beast!

Another professionals choice wrap user here. Holds up well - occasionally slips down if the tail has a lot of show sheen and I don’t do up the straps tightly, but can recommend…
