I have the opportunity to get some beautiful TS Trophy Hunter side zip low rise breeches in a 34R for a very good deal. For reference, I’m a comfortable 34 in Ovation breeches and my measurements are 32" waist/41" hips. Would these fit me properly? I’ve heard TS breeches tend to run small.
Yes, I bet they might fit. I have waist/ hip measurements about 1" smaller than yours, I wear 32s in TS, and I wouldn’t want them to be any tighter, myself. Can you try on a pair somewhere first?
Unfortunately not! The only English tack shop by me doesn’t carry Tailored Sportsman due to some demands from TS’s owner that the shop runner couldn’t possibly meet. So unfortunately I’m kind of left to guess and check with people on the internet
Gotcha. I bought my first pair of TS from SmartPak so that I could take advantage of free shipping and returns to find my size. Most of my other pairs I then found used, on sale, etc.
I desperately wish TS had a sock bottom, but the relaxed fit and nice fabric is so suitable otherwise that I keep buying them. Definitely try other brands, though!

Yes I wish TS had sock bottoms! Right now my favorite pair is rj classics golf but I’m open to trying others.
In my experience, TS Trophy Hunters side zips off the rack run true to size UNTIL you wash and dry them. Once heat dried, they generally shrink a size at the waist (so between 1-2" of shrinkage). The mid-rise are less forgiving after drying than low rise. And I have had success with stretching out a low rise waistband once dried and then air-drying thereafter. You can have them measure the waistband and compare it to your Ovation.
And for future reference (in case you find any good deals) the front zips fit completely differently off the rack and many people I know have to size up for those. They are less forgiving for people with hips.
So, for me - I wear a 30" TS Trophy Hunter, but all of my pairs actually measure more like 28" or 30" as they have been washed. I would need to wear a 32" in front zip if I planned to wash them, or a 30" if I chose to air dry. I’m a 28" in Tredstep Symphony Rosa side zip, by comparison. But measuring the waistband is helpful to determine the actual size.
Hope this helps!
I only wear the side zips and find them pretty true to size. One season I got a couple of interesting colors and for some reason those do run a little small compared to some I bought over the years prior and a couple pairs I got since. Not sure the reason for that. But the smaller ones I just air dry. The rest I put in the dryer but on the lowest setting.
