Taking the plunge!

I’ve been tired of h/j land for some time now, and I kept dreaming about trying something new with my aging horse. Well, I just signed up for a dressage lesson next Saturday! For now, I’m riding a school horse at the trainer’s barn. I’m not telling anyone (don’t need the drama), but I’m SOOO excited! I don’t know what will happen next, but it feels awesome to be excited about riding again :).

welcome aboard.

Welcome to the BRIGHT side! We do have cookies.

I’m not saying for sure that this will happen, but be prepared to be a little confused at first. If that happens, don’t be discouraged. Ask questions! Ask your trainer, come here and ask (we just love to help), and there is a ton of good basic material on the interwebs.

You will get hooked!

Yeah, I liken it to hitting that perfect drive or chip on the golf course. It happens once and you never forget it and pursue that feeling again relentlessly.

@Pehsness that is EXACTLY what it’s like.:slight_smile:

Thanks, friends! Learning some dressage feels like a no-lose endeavor for me. Even if I never become a full-fledged DQ, it’ll benefit any discipline I ever ride!

Enjoy your lesson!! Though I started dressage this summer, I didn’t leave H/J, just added to it! And I’m having a blast.

So true! That was my plan. I planned to spend one winter at a dressage barn working on my flatwork so I could improve my jumpers. I never left.

I can see that happening. I have loved jumpers so much, but I’m getting old and scared. I wish it wasn’t true. I’m grateful that the world of horses is so wide…I can have fun doing other things.

I just made the “jump” too! The difference in balance/position is taking me some getting used to…I feel like I’ve never posted before :lol: But it all feels so much lighter than I expected it to be.
