Thank you everyone, this info is very helpful! Will report back with which one I get, hopefully I’ll restrain myself and won’t buy more than one brush
Buy ONE Haas brush? Ha, ha, ha.
But there is one, according to the IVC website (https://www.ivccarriage.com), the Haas Capriole Everyday brush. It is supposed to be in the middle of the bristle stiffness range, useful on all horses especially when one cannot figure which other brush to use. Eqclusive also carries it with several different colors for the back of the brush.
I have not used this brush, but the IVC Carriage Co. people seem to think it is a good brush for everyday use.
Ended up going with the Parcour! I looked at a bunch of photos and videos of the brush, it seems that the border is very small on the older Parcour and the new version doesn’t have the border at all so either way it should be fine.
I ordered it from Fundis since it was in stock and is supposed to be here sometime this week, fingers crossed! Not entirely sure why I’m this excited over a brush since my horse likes being groomed with just about anything but oh well.
Also, you were very right. I’m already planning out which of the other Haas brushes I’d like. Hopefully having the Parcour will hold me over for a little while haha.
I’m obsessed with this curry. Even my thin-skinned TB has finally decided that this curry is all good!
I’ve had the same results–the super thin-skinned lesson horse I ride has admitted that this one curry comb is not an instrument of torture.
My riding teacher’s personal horse–we tried maybe 6 different curry combs on him, each supposedly gentler than the others, but it is the New Generation curry comb that he has personally selected as being OK.
I need a new soft brush, help! I have the Noir which I love and use daily and is starting to look a bit ragged. The Diva seems like overkill for everyday… I am looking at the Diamond Gloss or Grundy’s Finest?
So my Parcour got here today! I ordered it from Fundis on Saturday night and it arrived today/Wednesday so pretty great since the shipping tracker said it was sent from Germany.
However. I did notice that the brush immediately was consistently shedding bristles. Has anyone else had this issue with any of the Haas brushes? I have the Haas Koko brush, the small coconut fiber brush, and I don’t have an issue with it losing bristles. With the Parcour, it seemed to shed when I was cleaning it against a curry/brush cleaner/shedding blade or when I rubbed it on my hand, but didn’t seem to shed a lot when I was using it.
I tried it out today and I did like the brush but I’m worried with the bristle shedding that the brush will eventually stop working as well since the bristle density is lower. I’m not overly aggressive when I groom and I’m pretty careful with how I care for my brushes & clean/care for them. However, I do groom a lot so I’m worried if too much use will quicken the shedding.
Take a look at the Haas Country pig bristle wooden backed brush.
My riding teacher and I prefer the Country as a body brush, it gets up dirt that the other brushes missed. According to the blurb it does not cause static electricity or scratch the horse’s skin. The super sensitive skinned ITCHY lesson horse I ride also prefers it to the other Haas body brushes and it has his full approval.
Grey horse owner checking in. Nearly white flea bitten grey. We don’t really have mud but we have sugar sand that works it’s way into the coat and you can groom and curry …. Saddle up and ride and your horse literally sweats dirt . I have been following this thread since it’s inception and am solidly in love with my Haas brushes. The schimmel is the best thing for pulling up the sugar sand. Better than a regular curry. Sometimes I make little areas of clean and dirty and marvel at the difference. Yes I’m goofy
This is basically exactly my experience with my mostly white flea bitten grey schoolie and the very sandy area he lives in.
He loves loves loves the brenig madoc brush which does a pretty decent job. He tolerates the schimmel because he knows his favourite brush comes next.
And this horse generally hates being groomed.
I know this thread got quiet a few months ago, but if anyone’s still on the fence about buying some Haas brushes, Eqclusive is doing 20% off as a pre-Black Friday deal with code EARLYACCESSBLACKFRIDAY. Mine will ship out Monday and I’m hoping my Yaks like them!
Have been meaning to post this for months but kept forgetting. The Parcour never stopped shedding bristles so I just gave up on using it.
The Koko still does shed bristles a little bit but it’s not as bad and I don’t use it too much. It has actually become my staple for brushing shavings out of a thick tail and also cleaning dried sweat off of my girths and saddle pads, it works fantastic for that! I don’t use any other brush on the tail honestly, the coco fibers are stiff enough to detangle but since they’re coconut fiber, they bend enough to not yank out the entire tail. Sort of like those Wet Brushes that people use! I actually bought one for my horse but it didn’t work as well as the Haas Koko brush.
However for brushing the rest of my horse, I have fully converted to Leistner since my horse only really tolerates 100% natural bristle brushes, sigh. I do really like them though!
I finally got some Haas brushes!
I got the coat gloss and the diva. I have the Lipizzaner coming too but it was back ordered
My horse really seemed to dig the gloss brush. I thought he might like the diva on his face but he didn’t seem to feel it was super or anything.
Any suggestions for a super soft finishing brush for his face? Bonus if it comes in a small size / mini!
I’ve already got the Cavalier and Parcour in my “cart”.
I like Grundy’s finest, it’s pretty soft and all three horses I’ve used it on were good with it on their faces (as well as a soft finishing brush for all over).
The Brenig Madoc is the favourite of my fussy OTTB who disliked grooming at the best of times. He loves that brush all over, including on his face. He leans into it and begs for more.
Do you have electricity? I refused to pay that obscene amount for a horse vacuum so i use a shop vac with a horse attachment from amazon. The attachment comes with curry and brush heads. Game changer!!! All three of mine are having their most glamorous winter ever!
Can the horse attachment work on a portable/battery operated shop vac??? Do they fit the standard hose size?
Does anyone have any recommendations for repairing the handle strap on these brushes? I have several that I love to use, but the strap has broken. It makes it tough to hold onto the brush since they’re designed to be used with it (too wide to grip like a narrower brush). They’ve both broken right where the handle attaches to the brush so I can’t really sew it back together.
(For the record, one of these brushes is at least 10 years old, and another I got for free so I have no idea how old it is. Everything else about the brushes is in perfect shape!)
Eta image for a better idea of what I’m talking about. The strap is broken in the red circle.
Yes, we have electricity in the barn. TBH I use the “blower” feature more (you just switch the hose onto the other end of the machine and voila, it’s no longer a vacuum ) but a shop vac with attachments sounds like a solid purchase too.
I just wish I’d though to do it many years ago! I find the dander to be so difficult to brush out of their coat, but the vacuum (or blower) is a game-changer.
Every time I start drooling over horse-hair brushes, I have this inner chat:
How … do these brushes … uhm, happen?
I really don’t want the details.
Gee, they’re nice brushes.
Does the horse know he’s being groomed by a … former … horse?
Gee, they’re nice brushes.
Is this kind of like … getting licked … by a ghost?
