Just saw a job posting there. I know it’s in central VA. I know there’s the Orange Co. Hunt. My question (for lack of a better pre-coffee brain fog way to put it): is this true “Virginia horse country?” Do they kick it Middleburg-style there?:lol:
Orange County Hunt is not in Orange County, Va. It is in Middleburg/The Plains, a full hour+ north of Orange County, Va. In Orange County, Va. you have the Keswick Hunt (absolutely positively the real deal - territory, hounds, huntsman, membership are top top top quality Virginia-esque.) Also in Orange County, Va. you have Montpelier (races, training track), cute town of Orange, lots of beautiful countryside, and the Farmington Hunt is not far, in Charlottesville. Bull RUn Hunt kennels are just north of Orange (the town) and probably their territory spans into OC, Va.
Orange County, Va. is without equal for beauty and unspoiled open land. It is an hour+ to … whatever … but people that live there consider that a plus, not a negative. : o ) If I did not live in Rappahannock County (also unspoiled) I’d want to live in the OC.
Imagine! Orange County Hunt not in Orange County! That’s what 30 seconds’ worth of “research” (pre-coffee) buys you! Thanks for the info! It sounds well worth looking into
Orange County Hunt, kenneled in The Plains, is from Orange County, NY.
Interesting. I just now stumbled on the Orange County News (from New York) looking for an obituary for a library patron. Quelle coincidence.
While there are plenty of horses in Orange County (Virginia), OC is not AT ALL like Middleburg.
Rural, country, quite lovely but not grand.
I think, bayboys, that’s exactly why one might PREFER OrAnge County, Va.: o )

Town of Orange
We moved here 4 years ago and we love it. We do however miss some things like ethnic food, don’t look for bagels and cream cheese unless you go to Charlottsville. Pizza is found at It’s About Time in Culpeper and a few other things that the actual town of Orange does not have. The only restaurant is on Main Streeet called Elmwood at Sparks and it’s excellent. Don’t get me wrong there are other places toeat, but coming from NY we don’t think they serve actual food:)
Horsey things are great and we made lots of friends in a very short time. Where are you thinking of living and working?

No idea about living yet, just applied for the branch librarian job in Gordonsville
“Segregation Line?” Do tell.
Whoops - misread. “Segregation Lane” still sounds worth a story.
A very good friend of mine is a librarian in Culpeper, if you want I can get you in touch with her. She raises Arabians (think Nationals kind of Arabians) not backyard horses. She’s very organized and a true professional when it comes to library stuff. She ran a national children’ s program that won an award.
Let me know if you want to ralk to her, she’s not on line at all.
Interesting! I’ll send you a PM when I’m not at work
