My b.f. (bless his soul) has given me an IOU for a water sprayer/pump/thingy for my trailer for Xmas!!
I’ve long seen and admired them but never really pay attention to what they are, what’s best, what I need, etc.
I’d love some free-association information please.
Details: I have a 4h gn with tackroom but I use every bit of the tackroom for, well, tack and whatnot so I imagine the under-gn tank might be best. I think I’d want it to hook up to the truck battery (can they do that?) for a pump to get water to spray out. I cannot conceive of a time that I’d need the water/sprayer that the truck would not be hooked up to the trailer. (The Taylor Boyz guy in Warrenton told me that’s why people get a separate battery-power hookup - so they can use the water pump even if hte truck has gone off elsewhere. This just won’t happen in my case.)
I often have a full load of horses going hunting, or to a show, or trail ride, or whatever, and would love to have the ability to spray them off. I can envision filling the tank with warm water (hot?) before I go to whatever event and then having a warm water bath. I do not think I’d need this/want this in the dead of winter so a non-freezing setup is not necessary (if its even a possibility.)
Discuss. : o )
Nothing to add, except for maybe the fact that I’m a little green!!! OK, emerald green!!
Congrats to you on your wonderful Christmas gift!! You are one lucky girl!!!
These are great! This is the one I use:

They sell them at Tractor Supply, Amazon, Sears and hardware stores…They work great. I bought an additional hose to make the system a lot more reach. I hook it to the gooseneck battery and it works like a charm. Plus, the water warms up nicely. There’s a fitting for draining the tank which is handy for filling water buckets. To make it easier, I attached a 3’ peice of hose to the lower fitting and just folded the hose up to the top of the tank…no leaking and easy to fill the buckets.
These are really pretty quiet too! I just keep mine in the bed of the truck…no worries about leaking and I just fill it before I leave the barn.
Hunter’s rest,
This b.f. is seriously wonderful!! He understands you and really thinks through how to be supportive. Plus he’s handsome, too! I’m so happy for you!
Thanks Trak.
Questions: Where/how do you attach that tank to your gn?
I don’t have a gn battery (just the truck battery.) How do I handle that?
Is 15 gallons enough? I can’t picture ‘how much water’ a quick bath/spray off plus filling a bucket or 2 takes.
Thanks.
Any other ideas?

I don’t have that exact setup, but I do have a 35-gal tank that sits in the bed of my pickup, w/ attached pump that plugs into the trailer power socket. It was put together by a friend years ago after seeing the polo players’ 50-gal under-gn rigs. I unplug the trailer when we pull in, and have to remember to unplug the water and reconnect the trailer before we go home.
I can keep 2 horses at a 1-day horse trial in hot weather with plenty to spare: a couple of wetdowns per horse, plenty of drinking buckets, rinsing of boots/pads etc. I would think with a 4-horse operation, you would want more than 15 gal.
I do have to take it out when the weather gets cold (learned that the hard way – this is the 2nd pump ), so it doesn’t make it to the end of hunting season here in NY.
HR,
Does wonderful, supportive, handsome BF have a younger brother I could meet next time I come up? Merry Xmas!
That’s a seriously nice Christmas gift.
No suggestions, but I think I’ll be parking close to your rig from now on.
The water sprayers are very efficient. I use a ratchet strap and once the tank is full, it really doesn’t go anywhere.
You can plug into the trailer socket to get power…just find which junction is ground and power…you’re good to go.
I’m looking for something to put on my hay rack to run, gravity feed. Any ideas? I’m thinking about 50 gallons, enough for at least 3-4 days, 3 horses.
BTW, I’ve been using a barrel with a spigot that my dad made on a wooden rack in the bed of the p/u, it works pretty well and the barrel was free.
