Tall boot brands for short legs?

Anyone have a boot recommendation for a short legged adult? I measure just about 14" from the bottom of my heel to the back of my knee, nearly the same around my calf, usually a size 7 in paddock boots. So far I haven’t come across anything wide and short enough, though my local shop has limited options.

Im taking eventing lessons once a week, no showing. I don’t need tall boots, but I’m going to need to replace my half chaps soon and thought I’d take the opportunity to shop around. Probably not going to make a big investment now but if I find a good fit out of my price range I’ll have something to work towards.

Check out the TOGGI boots at Country and Stable (sale on). They are not “dress boots”, more an English country type but meant for riding as well as other pursuits! Excellent quality at an unbeatable price. They don’t come in a short length but are not the typical dig-into-the-back-of-your knee so would probably be fine. Some styles have full and regular fit.The Roanoke and the Tucson both have the back panel elaticised like half chaps. I have the Calgary, very comfortable and holding up well, no signs of wear after a year. They are oiled leather, tho, so don’t take a shine or look ‘elegant’.

Mountain Horse boots are a little shorter, though they may not be short enough. They are not “pretty” but have worn like iron for me. Tredstep Donatellos come in a wide variety of heights and calf widths, but I am not sure they are made anymore. SmartPak has some on clearance.

nope- ask any shoe repair shop. Cut the boot down , refinish off the top, and close the zippers

How would they “close the zipper”? You would have to cut off the top of it, so I would think the zipper would need to be replaced?

The problem with cutting down too tall boots is that the shape of the calf will be off. As a fellow shortie (27" inseam), I have this problem with ALL clothing, but it was especially frustrating with tall boots when I was still riding hunt seat. The widest part of the calf of a too tall boot will be too high for someone with short legs. If you have very thin calves, that’s not a big problem, but for those of us who have short, wide calves, it’s an issue. If you just cut down the boot from the top, the widest part of the boot will still be higher than the widest part of the person’s leg. I have the same issue with pants - hemming from the bottom doesn’t change the fact that the inseam is too long, the widest part of the hip is in the wrong place, etc. It’s obnoxious and expensive to rectify.

OP, I used to have a pair of Ariat Crown Pros that fit me like a glove. I don’t know if they still make that model, but I highly recommend them! Very comfortable footbed, too, like most Ariat boots.
