I am in search of new boots after my deniros are too short (bought them used and they were shrunk down) and my tredsteps blew up. I am an eq rider with long skinny calves so I love a tight look. I NEED them to last. I won’t be doing anything in them except riding but I ride a lot so I need it to last. My budget is $700. The cheaper the better.
Check out LM boots. I love mine- attractive, well made, reasonably priced. I am tall with skinny legs, so custom was the only option for me as off the rack boots were never tall enough. I don’t know if you can get them regularly for $700, but I they have periodic sales that might get you there and depending on your age, they do student discounts as well.
I got a pair of Dover Saddlery Madison boots recently (scored on poshmark for $100 basically new in box) and really like them. The ankles are tight compared to my Ariats but I LOVE that they make my (in reality short and little stubby) leg look long and thin with the super high Spanish top. Another order at the barn has the same boots and loves them too. I am saving mine for the show ring since my Ariats are still good for schooling, and think they will pass for much more $$$$ boots.
I was going to recommend this. Normal pricing, they might be an additional $150 out of your price range, no extra bells and whistles. But they will fit you fantastically and last a long time. Been very happy with all my pairs of LM Boots. I’d save just a little extra and go for those.
I don’t know how you feel about Ariats (people usually either love them or hate them), but I’ve been very happy with the Ariats I bought a few months ago. I’ve had Ariat paddock boots for a long time, but only recently bought the tall boots.
I bought the V Sport tall boots and I’ve found them tall enough, slim enough, and very comfortable.
I like the DeNiro Amabile boots for tall thin calves. They hold up really well (so much better than my Tredsteps - which had to be replaced three times!) and have barely fallen in over a year of daily use. Still look like new for the show ring.
Deniro Tricolore is a good budget friendly option. I have the Amabile (pebbled leather) boots for every day. They are nice boots. Pro tip: Only ride in your tall boots and wear another type of footwear (ie paddock boots) while bathing and doing barn chores. That has extended the life of my boots drastically. I don’t love the pebbled leather if I need to polish it, but they clean up well and have held up really well for the time I’ve had them.
I have the V Sports and personally feel they don’t look as nice in the show ring as some other boots. They don’t elongate my leg (lol at 5’2 there isn’t much “long” going on) the way the Madison’s do.
I second LM boots. Took 6 hours to break in and they last a very long time. Very affordable and you can design them however you like.
These are what I designed and bought. They are so stylish. I recommend getting the inside patch too.
Check out the Ego7’s. I tried on the Tucci’s and the Ego7’s at the same time, and the difference in the look on my was very minimal and the Ego7’s were under $500, and less than half the price of the Tucci’s (The same company that makes Tucci makes Ego7).
The Amabile comes in smooth leather as well - I have a pair in brown (dress - no laces). I did have to special order the brown, but they came in black smooth leather too.
From someone who wishes she could stuff her chubby calves into them, try the Ego7s!
I have seen the smooth leather amabile, but when I purchased mine the pebbles leather was less expensive so I went with it. I like them in every instance unless they need polish. lol
I also have Ego 7s. I have the dress boot style and I really like them. I got them first and then the Deniro’s. The deniros are are a bit more forgiving as far as stretch goes. But I would definitely buy ego 7 again.
