Tall Boot Zipper Positions

LM Boots is having a sale. They offer three options for the zipper position: traditional back zipper, back to the inside or back to the outside. See examples here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Qa1Cg15jA/

I’ve only ever had a traditional back zipper. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the other two positions?

I have very narrow ankles and heels so the advantage for me is that the heel cup area is uncompromised by a zipper and does not sag and wrinkle inwards and give me rubs. I have front and offset to the outside zippers in different brands and will never go back. Never tried offset to the inside as that seemed like metal on the horse?

Disadvantages are that it’s harder to repair and some people find it hard to get on and off.

When I was ordering my LM boots (three pairs of them, ha), I spoke with the rep about zippers. She told me the back zip was by far the most stable and easy to work with, replace, etc. She did not recommend doing the side zip to the outside or inside.

I always hated when my rear boot zip would scratch my saddle. When choosing my customs, that was the first thing I looked for- alternate zip placement. Now I have front zips and love them! No scratching, and even easier to zip up.
