Where do you send your boots to get the zippers replaced?
I checked my local upholstery place - no go.
They gave me another number for outdoor equipment repair - no go.
Emailed a cobbler repair shop in Denver (I’m in Colorado) - they quoted me $80 per zipper + shipping both ways = I can pretty much buy a new pair of boots on closeout for that price!
Any recommendations?
Do you need the whole zipper replaced or just the slider? The reason I ask is because those are 2 very different fixes. Arait boots are notorious for their sliders going bad.
In my area its about $80-100 is close to what most places cost. Mostly a “I don’t want to deal with the horse people” cost. My friend owns a shop and I asked him for his current rates. For a slider he charges $15. If the zippers need to be replaced he charges $65-$85 per zipper depending on the size and time it takes to do the work.
If you can replace the boots for under $200 - your “new pair on closeout” - do so.
OTOH, my 30yo customs deserve a trip to NYC to replace a zip. One already went, some 10yrs ago. Currently that repair is priced at $200.
It could just be the zipper pull - I’m not sure how to tell…
I went to a local shoe repair shop, he does it for $30 per zipper, or $12 for a new slider… he does a great job!
