Tall boots advice please

After 7 years of loyal services, my Grand Prix tall boots needs to be replaced.

I would appreciate recommandations on custom or semi custom tall boots brands.

I have a good budget, I don’t show, I like pretty but must be comfy and durable.

Thanks!

Personally, I can’t say enough good things about DeNiro boots. I have 2 pairs, and after 2 years both still basically look new. Check out the link below to see many pics and more info from my blog!

I have (sadly) 4 different boot brands, one off the rack and three fully custom, here’s how I rate them:

  1. Tucci custom boots, I love them, they fit like a glove. I use them only for shows (and I only show about 6-7X a year) so it’s hard to say how durable they would be for day to day riding.
  2. Off the rack de niros, I really like them, they fit me almost like customs and held up to 4 years of schooling. I opted for the softer leather they have and its pretty yummy once broken in.
  3. Parlanti custom. Just too expensive. They feel nice, but were extremely expensive compared to the Tucci’s
  4. Custom La Mundial. Nice boots but size problems are hard to deal with because they have to get shipped back and forth and no local shops carry them. My trainer loves these boots and has multiple pair, but they got her sizing right. Mine – after 3 tries they didnt and I gave up.

Is there something very unique about your measurements that precludes off-the-rack ordering? It’s kind of unusual anymore for a person not to fit well into some maker or other given how many calf and height options are available these days (and how many full elastic panels).

I think how often you plan to ride in these boots, how precious you’re willing to be with them, and how long you’d like them to last will (or should) make a huge difference in the recommendations you’ll get. If you’re looking for a tall boot for daily wear (and to pick a stall here and there, bring a horse in from turnout, etc.), I would personally steer away from the super fitted, “leather sock” Parlantis and others like them unless you’re willing to replace them quite regularly at considerable expense. IMO, their thin, ultra-soft leather, while lovely, just isn’t made for kind of use.

If if you’re looking for something that will wear like iron (as your GP’s probably did) with daily use and proper care, and if you really do need custom, I still don’t think you can go wrong with Dehner or Vogel.

Not as popular but my Sergio Grasso’s I got a smoking deal on from Farm House Tack a few years ago are holding up great. I’ve found them a nice compromise between my old wear like iron 20 yo Dehners and the sock like Parlantis, etc

Well I don’t think I’m that hard to fit so I may be able to find something in the semi custom brands.

There is some life left in my GP so I plan to keep them and wear them when conditions are less desirable (mud, rain etc).

Thanks for your replies I will now start shoppping!

I have yet to not be able to fit someone into parlantis. They have so many size options to choose from that I can always find a size that will fit someone like a glove. Their essential line is reasonably priced and great for every day riding

What options do they have in the Parlantis other then the Xtra tall… We cant get them tall enough.

There’s an XX Tall option

I have heard great things about DeNiro for both durability and comfort. Their footbed is supposed to be amazing, though I have yet to try a pair. Egos make a very custom like fit and I’m sure you could find something. I’ve been told their footbed is nice, but not as comfortable as the DeNiro. The Egos are more affordable than most at $500 and are made of a stronger leather than a Parlanti. As I say this, I currently have two pairs of Parlantis that were both handed down to me. Super comfy but not sure they’d be my first choice.
