Tall boots!

Not sure if this is the right section for this, please move it if it is!

I am a size 5 or 5.5 and I have been wearing size 6 Mountain Horse tall boots for the past 2-3 years. I have trouble keeping the stirrups on the balls of my feet when I canter/jump. There is about an inch of space between my toes and the front of the boot (on the inside), and when the stirrup is on the ball of my foot it doesn’t look like it is because the ball of my foot is behind the seam. I’m wondering if the size of my boot is contributing to my difficulty keeping the stirrup in place. Does having a size too big affect riding that much? I’m going to get new boots this Sunday, I was just curious.

Quite possibly. If there’s a full inch in front of your toe, that’s A LOT too big and will put your foot in the wrong place inside your boot as well as in the stirrup, so now your boots are fighting you instead of helping you.

When I was younger, I always had too-big boots and was amazed in the difference the right size made when I finally found a pair.

Steph, I have small feet also (size 5), and children’s boots will not work for me as the leg is usually too short or too narrow (or both). It’s too bad, because the Mountain Horse short-regulars look as though they would fit me in the leg, but the foot would be just too big.

I had to go custom. Good luck to you.

My boots broke, and while waiting for my new pair to arrive I wore my mom’s (half a size to a size too big). Like you, I had a good bit of room in front of my toes. It absolutely made a difference in my position and ability to keep my stirrups! Since getting my new boots in the correct size, it’s been much easier.

Wow I had no idea! I only just recently realized my boots were way too big. Hopefully this solves my problems then. I’m excited to go boot shopping! I hope I can find a decent and affordable pair since I’m a college student. I don’t think I can afford custom boots :(.

Also just a thing you should check quick, after 2-3 years the tread might be worn down.

Tredstep does have a suitable size but you may have difficulty finding an in-stock boot to try.

Only some of the Ariats are in a size 5.5 (smallest) - talk to customer service about fit & durability of the options.

Mountain Horse does the odd size 5, but usually only offers a single calf/height measurement :frowning:

Thanks alto! I’ll keep an eye out for those brands. The horse store near me has a great consignment area and some of the boots they have are in really good condition. Hopefully I can find something in my size!

Steph, what’s your normal dress shoes size? I wear normally 7 in high heels and I have to go with 6 in ariats. To me they run huge
