I do not ride western anymore per se. I do play polocrosse and would like to wear a pair of western boots outside of my riding pants. I have seen some pics of riders wearing taller boots that have kind of a flare towards the top. I like this style. I feel like I need a taller boot to protect my leg from rubs. Now here is part of my problem. I have about an 18" calf. 18" wide that is. I have trouble finding tall english boots to fit my leg, and feel that finding a western boot may even be harder!
Has anyone with larger calves found a taller boot to fit their leg? What brands might work best? I really like the look of the taller twisted x boots some fellow polocrosse players have, but not sure if they come in a wider calf. Unfortunately there are no stores nearby that have any boot selection to try.
How much are you looking to spend on a pair of boots? I know a guy that makes awesome custom boots at a reasonable price.
If you want to order a shelf boot you might try a men’s boot, they might be a little more forgiving in the calf for your foot size.
Don’t be afraid to call customer service if you find a boot you want to order, they might be able to measure a boot before they send it. And when you do order be clear on their return policy.
look at Texas Polo, they sell them
Try the Tony Lamas, they have a deeper split in the front and back, while still being tall on the sides, so they’re really forgiving for wide calves.
Thanks guys. I’m hoping to stay under $200. If i cant find anything in that range then i might as well wear my english field boots. I have thought of trying mens. I really wish there were a nearby store. I hardly know what size western boots to order, much less in Mens. I think the last western boots i got were the Justin gypsy. In an 8. In english boots I tend to wear a 9, in shoes a 7 1/2 or 8
I have 17+ inch calves and can still get my leg and jeans into the tall shaft Tony Lama 3r boots. They are under $200 and are SO COOL. I will warn you that the foot runs small, maybe 1/2 to one full size. I’m a true 9 (in Ariat and Justin) and have to go to a 9.5 or 10 in the Tony Lamas. So you will want an 8.5, probably. The calf is pretty forgiving though.
Not sure how western these are but they do great for wide calfs Dublins under 200 and adore mine easy off and on and no burns to my legs.
