Tapit

Any thoughts on Tapit’s potential as an event sire? Any soundness concerns?

Looking at a nice gelding, not for breeding (obviously). Dam’s pedgree contains Ribot/Dr. Fager/Never Bend/Intentionally/In Reality – not much crossover between sire/dam (a little Native Dancer, but not much else).

Many have love/hate views on the horses in Tapit’s pedigree. He’s 3x4 to Mr. P., but one of those is through Fappiano.

We like the horse in front of us. Just want to get a pedigree perspective too. Thoughts?

I do not like the AP Indy/Seattle Slew sire line at all. Not one bit. Has it produced anything of note in international competition? Viney would know, but I believe she has stated in the past that it has not (except maybe through Slew o’ Gold?)

Tapit has two listed in the USEF database–one with no results, one with one out at BN retired due to refusals. Pulpit has three–one with nada and two hunters. Given the age of both, I would expect more if they were going to produce horses for sport.

The dam side sounds lovely, though, and if you like the horse in front of you…I suppose that’s really what matters! I might take a good, solid look at the neck, considering Slew’s c-spine issues.

We acquired a son of Tapit (Tap Room)

and I can’t begin to tell you enough good things about him. He is completely bomb proof (and was immediately when started under saddle) a gorgeous mover and the loftiest jumper to be found anywhere!

Beautiful and kind. A late bloomer as far as development in looks but now is a dead ringer for his daddy.

He was year end Champion last year in his first year of showing in a local circuit and has been sold to a forever home in Warrenton, VA.

His show name is Mischief Managed.

I have an A.P. Indy gelding that is totally bombproof, sound, and has a great mind. Nice little mover, too. Love the line.

I don’t have any personal experience with Tapit’s, but on the track they can sometimes be high strung (I’m thinking of horses like Tapizar who want the lead and can get rank), but that doesn’t go for all of them, of course.

VirginaBred, I love the show name for your guy. Do you have any pictures?

My neighbor has a 17+ hand grey Tapit filly that I really keep threatening to steal for warmblood breeding. She is an absolute love and moves like a dressage horse. The neighbors of course, are horrified by the suggestion!

Living in the heart of the Bluegrass, I am getting to see many, many more really good examples of TBs than I ever knew existed.
