Just thinking a bit about tariffs, will imported horses have tariffs on them? If so, do you think the market will get stronger for horses for sale in the US? Especially imports now in the US? I might have one for sale but waiting to see if the market will either tank or get even stronger.
So the answer is yes, tariffs on horses. And on all kinds of horse gear too. Tack, clothes, hay, bedding, steel.
Honestly, I’d be thinking less ‘oh now those German WB I’m competing against will be more expensive’ and more like, “crap, a lot of people who thought they were in the market for a horse suddenly may realize they shouldn’t buy a horse at all.”
There are already two other discussions on tariffs and how they will impact equestrians. One is here in Off Course (scroll down) and another in the Dressage forum. Both have lots of information.
well if the USA would just do as EU that adds a VAT tax to the purchase maybe the transactions would become equalized… sell a horse to Germany add 19% to the cost, Demark 25% … that is above shipping
