I think there are fires in the PNW right now, so mire local. In New England, we’re getting smoke from Canadian fires.
I’m devastated and disappointed all around about the show but more so about my poor guy. My horse has a looooooooong loooooooong history of chronic colic (IBD diagnosed, Cushings), and had his first major episode in 2 years, last week. He’s currently at OSU and is stable. We were set to make our debut in the 4’ High Performance hunters and have been working our behinds off to get there! Oh well. Not the right time. Hopefully next year the stars will Iine up for us a bit better.
Had I gone, hopefully I could’ve put in a performance like one of these (our most recent “jumping up” schools)

There are no fires in central Oregon at this point. One up in the eastern Gorge that’s almost out. I get the potential for wildfire disrupting shows in Bend. Been there, done that but I doubt that’s the main cause of folks not entering. Given how widespread wildfires now are, how dry summers are in the PNW/BC/CA are any shows safe from that potential??
The Crooked River Grasslands just caught on fire this afternoon! 35-ish miles from the showgrounds. It’s a pretty small fire so fingers crossed.
Having to jump on grass has always limited entries and the smoke in 23 was so bad it postponed classes. I heard last year was bad too. That was the last straw for a lot of people with the cost and hassle of getting there. And it’s hot as anything in Bend in July these days. The Canadians not coming is a big factor but not the only one.
You guys look great! I hope he has a speedy recovery and a prompt return to the ring.
Also, what a beautiful indoor!
I think you’re right. I honestly think the majority Canadians that go to WEF and Ocala etc. will continue to do so. In my jaded, cynical mind I don’t think they give two flying hoots about tariffs because they can afford to not care and to be even more of a cranky old lady, like everything else, they think they are above supporting one’s home country- that’s for us little folks! Plus, how would they ever cope in the winter in Canada? They might get…cold!!
Sadly at the international level, it’s all about the ranking points. There is really no choice in the winter other than Florida on this continent if you want to maintain your place on the list and thus earn invitations to the prestigious events and series.
I was going to say the exact same things. Lovely.
But even those who don’t show internationally, will still head down there because they can. Absolutely their choice but I would not.
Thank you!!! It is a barn that we go visit to school at and it is a treat. I hope he does too. Waiting for more diagnostic results to see if they can understand what caused this episode.
This is 7th time in 6 years he has ended up at the vet for fluids (NG/IV) and monitoring, and about the 15-16th colic episode in the same amount of time. Never gone to surgery (knock on wood). He is my once in a lifetime and so very resilient, so we will all keep fighting the good fight for his poor GI system.
Thanks for letting me emotionally derail the thread a bit! Perhaps next year when we hopefully get to TBird, there will be no question or concern of border safety, for all.
Fingers crossed on all fronts!
I don’t think I have ever ridden in one yet, but I love the concept of the indoors that have the big windows that you can roll up to let in more air in good weather. That just seems like a fantastic idea.
I have seen this place in Dutchess County, NY. Massive arena with sliding windows. Absolute heaven. But I digress as usual
Is that Silo Ridge? I don’t recall if that place was in Dutchess County or somewhere else.
No, it’s a private farm across the valley from there up in Millbrook. It is a buttery yellow horse paradise.
Nice!!
I would love to have that thing cold enough to hang meat in right now in FL (only half kidding lol)

I live a few hours north (at least) of this location and you wouldn’t be even half kidding if you figured an indoor would be a good place to hang meat. I can’t figure out what what you mean. Indoors get hot. Add sun and humidity into the mix and it gets nasty. Especially if you live in an area where the temperatures dip down really cold in the winter.
I work at a farm in SE PA. I have boarded at a few farms with indoors. Insulation or lack of insulation makes a huge difference. The current farm I work at has an insulated ceiling. There are 2 big fans. In the summer they open both big end doors overnight to let it cool down. We close it in the morning.
No you can’t hang meat in there but it is cooler and less humid fir a good portion of the day.
In the winter there are 2 torpedo heaters to take the chill off in the AM.
I have been at uninsulated indoors. Tgey always seem to be the same temperature as the outside

What I mean is that I am in Florida, sweating my behind off and dealing with my poor non-sweating horse who is freaking miserable and having to live with this infernal sun and it would be nice to have at least a covered arena with a little bit of shade. That’s what I mean
