Tariffs impacting showing

We are doing an E29B for May. I haven’t heard from others (I don’t know a ton who haul their but we are sticking to it.

What documentation are you bringing? Would you mind updating how it goes after you make it up? I’d be so grateful.

I believe we are bringing the same as in years past…coggins & health cert. Yes I definitely plan to update as soon as we cross! I’ve debated bringing her passport in years past but didn’t really have a reason to as we had enough to cross, but maybe will do that this year?

Sometimes we do haul the horse back between weeks, but are opting to leave her up there at a rehab place instead (both because it’s an amazing place and very reasonably priced so that just makes sense, and to keep border crossing at a minimum).

Thunderbird has definitely been impacted. It has cleared its waitlist for the 2 May shows, which never happens. And they still have RV sites available, again unheard of. I was talking to the lady who looks after the RVs, and she said there have been lots of cancellations of Americans. She says the main reason that she has heard is that they are afraid that anyone not American born may be refused re-entry, even if they are permanent residents (or whatever the equivalent is in the states).

Thanks for the update. This situation is just sad and unnecessary. I suppose I shouldn’t be worried about horse shows when it is our human rights being stripped away by a bunch of power-mad cartoon villains, but I can’t help it, those venues are iconic.

That’s it in a nutshell. We (many of us) have lived in a protected bubble of entitlement, but what is going on affects all of us.
Or will.

Torn between wondering if 57 in the FEI jog is a typical number for Tbird first week and whether my uncle’s Navy tattoos will get him renditioned to South Sudan.

Well, considering FEI isn’t your typical horse show entry…there are also a lot of team horses for this particular show.

There are 20 Canadian horses that jogged. Without looking it up, I’m assuming Ireland, New Zealand, and USA are the other teams. Then a few individuals, some with multiple horses.

The carnets have been working as usual, so I don’t think the tariffs are affecting much of the equine travel up there.

There is also a crowded competition calendar in Europe this week. To be honest I am less concerned about tariffs and more with the self-inflicted trepidation about border crossing, where a person may either run into Canadian elbows or American detention centers.

The tariff discussions are so fluid it’s hard to figure it out. There was a pretty strong international contingent of riders competing at Kentucky 3 Day and with the amount of $$ it is to ship a horse from Europe to US I’m not thinking they would’ve come if tariffs were an issue.

The tariffs hadn’t kicked in at Kentucky. They are just starting to kick in now really as most retailers had some pre-tariff stock on hand.

Newly announced 50% tariffs on the European Union? Unless there are carve-outs for the horse industry I guess a lot of sale horses will all of a sudden come from Switzerland. Lucky for the Swiss dealers!

UK young horse producers are also about to have a great year.

That is a plus. You can’t have too many Billy horses in my book. They are fun-loving scamps.

Way to look on the bright side.

Did you guys cross last week?

We crossed with the E29B no problem! I tried updating sooner, but I kept getting an error message when I tried to reply here!

How were the numbers at the show compared to previous years? For Americans and in general?
