An email that went out from the JC to account holders today mentions the addition of enhanced markings to help better identify those illegibly tattooed horses. Cool!
I want to mention an enhancement we’ve made to Tattoo Identification Services, which we unveiled back in April, and to also remind you about the Retirement Checkoff Program we announced last December.
Tattoo Identification Services, a free service that helps owners identify tattooed but unknown Thoroughbreds in their possession, now provides owners with access to our markings database when researching partial or illegible tattoos. You can obtain potential matches of registered Thoroughbreds by providing the readable portion of the tattoo and indicating the presence and location of white markings on the head and legs.
I encourage you to try the new markings feature to assist you in identifying unknown Thoroughbreds with lip tattoos. Tattoo Identification Services is available at www.jockeyclub.com and www.registry.jockeyclub.com.
As you complete your foal registration applications in the coming weeks and months, we hope you will keep in mind our Retirement Checkoff Program, which benefits two organizations that provide post-racing care for Thoroughbreds. The Jockey Club will match the checkoff on a dollar-to-dollar basis up to $200,000 in 2009. Checkoff proceeds and matching funds will be distributed to Thoroughbred Charities of America and Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
If you have any questions about either program, please don’t hesitate to contact Registration Services. The email address is: registry@jockeyclub.com. The phone number is (800) 444-8521.
