anyone know if there is anywhere in the JC where you can find your horse’s tattooed number? (the one on upper lip?) my horse’s is unreadable but would love to know what it is. i have her jockey club name and i’m a member but don’t know if i can find that number or if it’s even associated with anything
It’ll be on her papers, if you have those. There is no name to tattoo lookup, but if you have the time, you can search with her markings to get there (but it’ll take awhile!)
If you have her registered name, you have the beginning letter, as they signify year of birth.
You need a letter and at least 2 digits of the tattoo to use the tattoo research capability. I’ve found a few just by going through the one combination at a time, comparing horse descriptions. It’s time consuming, but it’s possible.
You can also fill out the General Identification form online through the interactive registration. When you hit the “research a tattoo” link, there are a few hyperlinks on that page that say “if your thoroughbred is older than 25 years of age please click here…” That’s the general identification form. I’ve used it a few times over the years. It takes time for them to get back with you, but they will.
Would this be by year where I search ?
Are you asking how to search by markings? It’s under tattoo lookup. Input the letter (which you know, it’s yob), start with 00 and her markings. You may need more guess numbers if she’s plain. But you can get there eventually.
I had one I couldn’t read, took him into a dark stall, and used a blacklight. Number was readable.
does she have to be under 25? i think older than that i have to submit a request, or maybe im looking in the wrong place?
Yeah, you have to submit a research request for horses older than 25.
