TB Pedigree-Pleasant Tap?

I just found out that I have this mare http://www.pedigreequery.com/illicit+encounter
by Pleasant Tap and out of Juliet’s Affair (Black Tie Affair).

How are these bloodlines for sport? I have had the mare a few weeks and just looked up her tattoo. I love everything about her.

This is purely anecdotal, but I had a Pleasant Tap that I had at a show 4 days after his last race. Very good personality, tucked evenly and cleanly and would jump the moon. I have no idea of an overall for his progeny, just my experience

My gelding has Pleasant Colony in the same place and supposedly his long hip, shoulder and fun, goobery and great attitude is typical of Pleasant Colony offspring and grandbabies. He has Al Hattab on his dam’s side which is where I attribute his uphill build and movement, so I can only try to picture what your nicely bred mare is like.

Photo from last night - gives you an idea of the typical shoulder and goobery personality, though his hip is twisted to the left in reaction to enjoying the scratches on his spider bite, so it looks shorter than it is. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/r180/542238_874677132856_386444614_n.jpg

His trot is getting really good, but I especially love his canter, which the lines are more known for… http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/316780_872828781966_1129404003_n.jpg

ETA: I wasn’t his first owner off the track, but he went to a show the weekend after he left the track and apparently handled it very well, too.

Pedigree shows excellent promise for sport. There is not a line in it that has not produced good sport horses. Even the Mr. P son is the sire of a 4* event horse. Fact that it is Northern Dancer free is good for a number of reasons, in part because it opens up many breeding options.

The most interesting thing about it from my perspective is the tail female. http://www.bloodlines.net/TB/Families/AmericanFamilies/FamilyA34.htm It’s not rooted in GB as far as anyone knows yet. And has been over the centuries one of the less successful American families, as its name implies, but it has survived. HOWEVER, a mare who is considered one of the greatest in all TB racing history comes from A34–Miss Woodford. http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/Billet.html#MissWoodford This mare is tail female to a full sister of Miss Woodford, Belle of Runnymede, who is also profiled in the TB Heritage article.

There is a more complete article about Miss Woodford on Wikipedia.

Nice boy netg! Thank you viney for the info. I am going to read all that on Miss Woodford as soon as my headache is gone.

This mare loves to jump around, goes over anything. I will have to get some pics of her.

I love Pleasant Tap. He was a tough versatile race horse who could win at 1 1/4 miles and come right back and finish third (and closing) in the Breeders Cup Sprint. I look at every TB sale catalog for horses by him. Good luck with her.

Will Coleman has a lovely horse by Pleasant Tap for sale on his website right now: http://www.willcolemanequestrian.com/will-coleman-horses_YT.asp

I bought a Pleasant Tap son last week. He arrives tomorrow.

I was seeking out a Pleasant Colony line horse. I recently sold a PC grandson who is really a one-in-a-million-billion animal.

We’re hoping the new guy is like the old guy: straightforward, intelligent, and athletic.

Very nice JER! what a good find. What are your plans for him?

We’re hoping he likes eventing.

He’s the ‘replacement’ for our other 4YO OTTB from Pleasant Colony lines. We weren’t planning to sell the other one, but the perfect situation arose. We had so much fun with him that we wanted another one.

love Pleasant Colony as a sporthorse sire and Pleasant Tap is probably his most used at stud son that comes to mind. PC tends to throw a tall, sturdy good minded horse.
