I’m leasing a 15 year old TB mare. I know she raced, because I have JC papers with her registered name and number of races. (She raced 29 times, and showed once. Lousy racer, but great horse for me). The papers don’t have the years she raced. Is there a way I can find out when she stopped racing? I’m wondering how long she’s been off the track. She’s a fuss budget and I can’t keep her lip up long enough to read her tattoo.

If you have her JC Papers, you have her JC name - you can look up her race record at:
www.equibase.com
Simply type her name in the box on the right - it will load a new page. You should be able to find her record under ‘RESULTS’.
You can also find the smartphone app ‘HORSE RACES NOW’ (though your mare may be too old for it) and see if there are any videos of her races on… the earliest I’ve found on HRN is a 2002 video of a gelding of mine. Some tracks are more diligent in records/videos than others so you may find some if you’re lucky, though 15 may be too old before the expansion of videoing capabilities.

PQ is user generated, so 1. she may not be in there, and 2. even if she is in there, the info may not be correct.
Equibase is THE authority.

Equibase is the only site I will use for accurate info. It will give a a list of every race she ran in, where she finished and you can also see the chart for each race.
You should also have her dam’s name and you can look up if she has any siblings. Click on this link and type in her dam’s name in the appropriate spot - no need to fill in birth year.

If you want to find out more about her family and/or if she had foals, ect ect. You can also go to Equineline.com and run reports. Anything but her tabulated pedigree costs money but it’s worth it if you are really curious about her.
If you have her JC papers, you also have her tattoo. The first two numbers are the year.
Not sure exactly what you have but her actual registration papers will not have the number of races on it. They record wins only so if she never won her papers will be blank on the back except for signatures if her ownership was transferred to someone else during her career.
