TB stallion El Padrino

I like Redeemed. Include gives a nice front end, and Pleasant Colony is a good addition for size.

I also love the Broad Brush in his pedigree-talk about an iron horse!

Ahhh choices… Such different horses. Medallist is the proven sire, checks all the boxes for his good points matching her flaws, is an A++ nick. In short…probably the better choice if I am choosing “breed to sell”… It will be on paper a more marketable foal. Now if I was breeding to ride/ train myself… ( which happens if the foal does not sell) I would lean towards Redeemed. Not a commercial match/ nick on paper but a nice SOLID built boy. Linebreeding Pleasant Colony is pretty much asking for a slow to mature foal. Nice old school lines of soundness, PC is a sire line dwindling from the breeding pool and I am all for trying to preserve those. Plain brown wrapper tbs harder to sell. My mare is flashy but PC tends to be a chrome killer.

I agree sounds like you have a well thought out plan what ever option you pick.

Has anyone used any Dynaformer sons for sporthorses? I keep seeing Dynaformer children running over fences. (We have Nicanor in Maryland. The article attached has a picture of him in the paddock and he looks to stand over some ground.)

Dynaformers tend to be talented but not an easy ride.dear old grandpa Ribot. Same family that makes my US Flag mare here seeking a date of even temperament…in fact it’s the exact same cross! One is Ribot over Turn To, the other Turn To over Ribot…

Thanks for the info about Dynaformers as sporthorses! They do seem to go on to race over fences more frequently than most… although I’ve had the same experiences with Ribot up close in a pedigree more often than not!

I have a season to Lentenor available to me, but I keep having second thoughts about taking advantage of it… I’m not crazy about him for my mare, which keeps giving me pause.

Its why I wouldn’t even consider Salute The Truth (Hoist The Flag bred) or Nicanor for this mare. She is tempermental, so I want no more crosses to that particular family. This mares dam was only 15.1H like her (she is a clone of her dam…physically and mentally) but used to trot over fences here if she didn’t like where I put her. And I mean trot up to a standard height fence and pop her short self over without so much as a hiccup or a break in her stride. She also did it on and off of concrete which used to scare the bejeebers out of me. Pasture was bad enough. At the barn: we have an L shaped barn. Her stall was in the short end of the L and there are big sliding wood doors at the end…but I like to keep the wood doors open in nice weather for ventilation so there is also a regular pasture gate we can swing across the door. When I let the horses from her paddock in to feed she used to trot in one end of the barn, past her stall over the end gate and keep on going. Concrete barn aisle, concrete pad to land on the other side. Gah. The rest of em all knew where there stalls were and wanted dinner. The group was let in en masse, they would each walk into their own stall and eat. Not her! After a few of those ding a ling had to be led in.

But, but
Pleasant Colony is Ribot tail male.

The most talented and athletic sporthorse TB I ever owned was a Ribot grandson (son of His Majesty) and he was a puppy dog. But man… some of the rankest racehorses I ever worked with had Ribot close up.

If you had to ask me to name a sire line known for nasty temperaments, Ribot would be near the top. Along with Halo and Roberto/Kris S!

Thanks for the info-had heard Dynaformer himself was tough on the ground. I was wondering about his use as I saw a good looking gelding son at the races the other weekend (and of course he has had several others) and it seems tempting with the right mare. They sure are classically good looking and seem to stand over a lot of ground as opposed to some of the more compact sire lines. Maybe good news is as as closely watched as these guys have been it does not seem like the issue has come up (yet!)

Doesn’t seem to come through in him …Roanoke ( through His Majesty) was very popular at stud around here for both race and sport foals and had level headed kids. Have not heard of other PC lines being difficult either. Plus nowadays with PC the Ribot is quite a ways back. With Dynaformer and US Flag/ Hoist The Flag the Ribot is up close.

Lol. Roberto is Turn To. So is Halo. Dynaformer and US Flag are both Ribot/ Turn To crosses…so probably a bad mix for a good personality…

Well I settled onMedallist for her. His asking stuffee is lower to start with. Since she is an a++ nick with him and his book is lighter than Redeemed they were also more willing to neg on his fee. So… If I like both stallions equally, in the end money is the deal breaker

You should do well with Medallist.

As to the Ribot issue and temper, it seems that “difficult” sires often have a few sons who don’t inherit or pass on the temper. His Majesty was known for siring pleasant horses. The Pleasant Colony’s I’ve known were fairly kind. They are sometimes the best possible scenario. You get the Ribot talent without the attitude.
Nashua was notoriously opinionated yet Diplomat Way was an amazing sport sire of easy going horses. I guess his got his demeanor from his Princequillo dam. You could probably say the same about Secretariat who was pretty easy going.
