TB Stallion Posse

Does anyone know much about his get for sport?

I have a very nice coming 4 year old filly. Better than average mover, super nice type with good bone and extremely good balance. I picked her up as an event horse prospect possible addition to my broodmare band (we are going to compete her some first). http://www.pedigreequery.com/form+the+posse

I just saw another fresh off the track gelding by Posse posted on Facebook and he has similar good movement (especially after 109 starts) and also a nice type. He’s a bit shorter than my filly. Trying to understand where in their pedigree the movement is coming from. Their bone and type is similar to what I expect from DM line horses but looking for more insight. http://www.pedigreequery.com/outriders+posse

Does any know Posse offspring competing in sport after racing?

Easy pick: Vent Neurf is out of a Tudor Minstrel mare.

Imagine there’s more there, but Tudor Minstrel is definitely known for movement, even when found way back in a pedigree.

Interesting Simkie–I wasn’t aware of that and don’t typically look that far back with TBs. But I will now!

Here is the filly fresh off the track earlier this year. The other Posse gelding looks like he moves similar. She is 16H now and still growing. Filled out quite a bit. I think she will jump and be a good event horse type.

do you have the add for the Posse gelding? I absolutely love his pedigree top/bottom.

Posse has a couple horses in NY I’ve seen in person. Their movement varies. Some are BTA, some just average. I do like their type, but I think your filly is one of the better ones I’ve seen from him. He seems very much like DM in terms of siring types - not too hard to pick out one of his offspring in a crowd… you will see heavy/thick necks and somewhat downhill… but they tend to be tall and sound. His sire Silver Deputy, is not a horrible mover. Lots of HJ kids from Silver Deputy. Some of his kids I’ve seen I’ve been interested in - SD has quite a few eventers out there as well. DM is not my favorite line for sport though I do appreciate his talent… and you ride the horse, not the pedigree.

If Posse is contributing movement, it is through his dam and her double to HTR and the upclose infusion of Rahy/Blushing Groom. Simkie is right, TM does carry movement especially when tail female and contribute it; when you double HTR like that you are powerpacking a pedigree with lots of movement contributors: Teddy, Blue Larkspur - Then there is Turn To/RC tail male…

One thing about Posse… He seems to produce warhorses frequently.

I thought the gelding looked like a nice all rounder type.

My filly is a bit fancier but she also didn’t race as long.

Your filly is LOVELY. What’s her temperament like? I thought Roberto was supposed to be a bit tough. Wonderfully athletic, but not a friendly sort.

I like the dam’s pedigree. Looking at the tail female line further back to the tenth generation was interesting. Some excellent historic horses doubled up in there. I linked to it in case anyone else following this wanted to look.

Enjoy her!

FWIW, the filly is packed with HTR. I didn’t look that far and counted 4 lines to him.

Well since she is double to Roberto it isn’t surprising to have several lines to HTR. Her legs are nice and clean and she is a lovely type to handle. Smart and reasonable. So far she is fairly uncomplicated and looks quite athletic.

If I end up breeding her, it would be likely to WB or Trak cross for event horses. I’m typically pretty careful to look at the line breeding of TBs lines when I do and would try to avoid more HTR. But I wouldn’t breed her until I’ve seen what sort of event horse she is herself. It was why I wondered about other Posse offspring as she is a phenotype that many eventers desire now.

I had a mare by Posse a few years ago who looked a lot like a quarter horse. She was a chestnut with three socks and was tough, reactive and hot.

I found her a home as a broodmare.

I love your filly. I’ve watched the video and looked at her video and think she’s a super nice horse.

Posse is a popular NY stallion and I remember listing a few at Finger Lakes. For the most part those I listed were built more like Posse which is nothing to sneeze at, but I think your filly reflects the kind of conformation I associate with Hail to Reason and Roberto more than Posse.

I love your filly and think having Roberto through Dynaformer and Posse’s mare line is pretty fantastic. But, I’m a big fan of Roberto.

MANY years ago I exercised a horse called Uno Roberto by Roberto and he was one of the smartest horses I’ve ever ridden. He was also very athletic and incredibly kind. He liked some riders more than others and he did expect respect and fairness. I’m sure he could have transitioned to an event horse.

I was so surprised the first time I read that Robertos can be difficult. That wasn’t my experience at all and when I finally bred a mare I sought Roberto sire lines because I’d learned to love that breeding.

Your filly also has In Reality, another great in my mind. I had a mare named Rapid Reality whose bottom line was In Reality. She was a bit hot but oh so athletic. I could not afford to event when I had her but I fox hunted her and she was one of the most game horses I’ve ridden.

In my mind and also my very limited experience with horses by Posse, you have an exceptional looking offspring. I like the set of her neck on her shoulders than the other Posses I’ve seen. She looks like she’ll mature into a jumping machine, and if she has the mind that I associate with Roberto she’ll work with her rider as a true partner as long as the equation is fair.

I’d be going through a very bad case of filly envy if I didn’t have a nice 2 yr. old here by Doubles Partner who goes back to Roberto through Kris S and Rock Hard Ten.

I hope you keep us posted on her progress.

I would say that movement comes from a combination of Blushing Groom/ Roberto/ Dynaformer and In Reality myself. She has the nice movement behind and in front, not so common in a TB.

Not familiar with Posse but my In Reality/Turn To mare is an exception moved with a hind end that dressage folks love. Great joint articulation they say. So anyways, with all the Roberto/HTR & In Reality, I’d say it has something to do with that.

I would be interested to see her move in another month or two once let down a bit further. she is super nice. Agreed that you are seeing the movement from the Rahy, HTR, In Reality lines coming through. put her through a jump chute and see what shes got

These were my exact thoughts as well.

Posse gets a tough horse, but they tend to be “racey” in their physical type whey they take after him. But he also seems to be one of those stallions where his get tend to favor the dam more than himself IMO.
