Teaching youngsters not to paw,..

So maybe just go to a show and volunteer, but not show… so I can take her and she can stand tied (She does that well but paws now and again) and work on giving her attention when she isn’t pawing and ignoring her when she is.

Working on mounting while at the show when she stands still. Should I do this off to the side and maybe lunge her a little around the block when she is being naughty? Move the block to her when she stands still and mount up? Or move her to the block and line her up, stand her square and mount up?

Lilly is very different to train from Myst. Myst is just chill and whatever.

Yep Stoicfish is right. Go on as many local shows/outings as you can, even if it’s not your discipline and you are not competing. She is excited to be doing something different and away from home, the more she sees this environment the more relaxed she will become and her good home manners will become good show manners too.

Stand her near the action and wait, wait, wait until she settles and stops wiggling. Ignore her wiggling, don’t discipline just wait it out. Let her look and neigh and wiggle but don’t lead her around. Try to keep her on the one spot. Be prepared for this to take half the day initially! Once she stops jiggling about and drops her head and relaxes then you can go back to the truck or get on her or take her to another part of the show. Rinse, repeat!

Thanks! What great advice… I will certainly take it and use it! Its easy to do as well. I am happy that she is excited to be going to different places.

Here is the Lilster after placing second at Halter.
