Anyone on here know where a hunter rider could try it out? It looks like fun. Not that either of my horses would go for it!
Lots of places!

Saddlebrook Equestrian Center used to hold team penning events, not sure if they do anymore though.

My horses - I laughed out loud at that One is a 21 year old Holsteiner who on some days is afraid of his own shadow. I don’t think cows are in his future! The other is a herd-bound TB…so I guess if I could convince him that cows ARE his herd…maybe? Hahahaha.

Thanks, I will check that out. I was hoping for a place where I could take a lesson (?) or “rent” (??) an experience horse to try it out. The reputation of that place otherwise would have me a bit leery - but it could be fine for that kind of thing.
John May in McKean does a great job teaching beginners how to sort. He has them start on foot before “graduating” to a horse.
He also trains horses, so I bet he could hook you up with a good one for a lesson.
OK, I’m editing because I just now read the “SE” part of your question, and McKean is about as far from you as possible. But it still might be worth your while to drive up to take a lesson or two from him. I’m sure he can put you in touch with someone in your area. In fact, he might be willing to do that if you just give him a phone call.
He’s super nice and committed to the sport.
JC Cutting Horses in Douglasville may be able to help you out. Jann and Johnny Costa are great people, take excellent care of their horses and customers, and do a lot more than just cutting. In addition to their Facebook page, here is their website!

Call Crownstone Feed in Lewisville PA. The owner, Pal and Kim the girl that works there both do team penning. I know there a couple of places in the Oxford/Lewisville/Kembelsville area. 610-932-8267
Haha, yes, McKean is FAR. But Boyertown and Oxford both sound promising. Yay! I’m going to definitely give it a go. Last year I did polo lessons - this year, western

kasjordan where are you located?! I’ve been wanting to get my pony exposed to some cows and your “New Beginnings” nights sound PERFECT for us! He is pretty fearless and loves to have a “real job” to do, so I think working cows would be a blast for both of us!
