Teams for the Paris Olympics

I’d love to see Karl and Hot Bobo get picked. Just my personal opinion but Karl appears to struggle with nerves sometimes but I think they deserve to be there.

I can’t recover from his wife’s tasteless rants last time. And Hot Bobo had had major troubles this season.

For sure, she came across as a bit unhinged.
Unless they use the FEI rankings - there are 3 in the top 100 - Colleen, Waylon and Jess.

Jumpers have been announced but not Eventing or Dressage. Ugh

We have to remember when we are looking at the FEI rankings, the scores are based on multiple horses - not just one. So it is possible to be down the list and still be placed in a team. Example Mike Winter.
I can only think that the riders know, the list hasn’t been revealed to all of us - so there are probably appeals and/or soundness issues but :woman_shrugging:
I’m thinking the HPAG isn’t wanting a repeat of 2022 - where one ride ranted on FB for a prolonged period of time and then made an appeal when she wasn’t chosen as the Individual Rider replacement, when CL had to withdraw.
I know it’s taking awhile, however I like this approach, if there are appeals. And I hardly think these selectors are too scared.:woozy_face:

But those numbers are based on all their rides, not one ride specific, I believe.

Which means, the more horses you have the better chance of being number one, even if you aren’t very consistent.

Unless I am wrong, which is always possible lol.

ahh @canuckeventer was thinking the same LOL

Exactly Lady B - more horses, more results, the higher the ranking.
Glad we think alike.

I agree.

I am sure the riders not selected genuinely feel cheated, that he/she deserved the spot. But then follow the appeal process, quietly and professionally.

A rant on social media that continues for days if not weeks, by the rider or his/her spouse /supporters does not do the rider any favours in their professional career. provide reasons / evidence why you should have been selected instead of another rider.

As a nobody / smurf, I have an opinion of who I would like to see selected, but I have no clue of the various facts about the horses and riders that lead to the actual selection. A social media rant about the incompetence / bias of the selectors and the unfairness of the process makes one look like a sore loser and not a team player … sour grapes.

If the appeal has merit, follow it up to the Sports Dispute Resolution Tribunal where TPTB at EC are not the decision makers.

Any social media rant about bias/unfairness/incompetence in the team selection process mainly indicates that the author/author’s spouse is not a team player and most likely would not get along with the system and/or the officials that are part of the Olympic games - and therefore should not be selected for the national team. Being a team member is more than having a good horse and reasonable results.

Mark Phillips also said this:

“We all need to hope for a safe and successful competition in Paris, because the decision on the inclusion of equestrian sports at the Los Angeles Games has now been put off until December. We are at risk.”

Is this true?

You can see where a specific rider/horse combination are ranked on the FEI website , in addition to the riders’ overall ranking.

We’re now waiting until/no later than July 4th…

Clearly there must be an appeal!

That’s what it is looking like - thinking more than 1?? Unfortunately, this year has been a bit “muddy” because no one had a solid year in NA.

I’m starting to wonder if someone forgot to tell Canada it’s an Olympic year.

It’ll be so last minute, that the go fund me’s will be all over the internet, while the horse is loading on the plane. They probably will find out if they made the team at the jog at this point LOL.

“Congrats! You’re riding in the Olympics! Can you be there in 10 minutes?”

Can’t imagine that this would all be great for team spirit! Selection in this sport is somewhat selective and I can’t imagine any arbitrator would have any easy time.

As to KS’s wife complaining on social media - that was so tasteless that I can’t cheer them on. The horse that “deserved” that spot has since been dropped from their string because it was not suitable for solid results at this level. And LMF was also horrendous - can’t cheer her on anymore either.

I’m thinking if we were following the former format of 4 members/team, there would be fewer issues for all teams - not just Canada!

Ditto, that was so tasteless last time too.

LMF has really tarnished her image imo.

Here are nominated entries. As far as I know, no other horses can be going but these possibilities.

Which means no Lacey and no Waylon (boo)
