Tell me about the Friesian Group

Despite my overall complaints about the opening ceremony - I did find this group to be amazing - It was nice to see one rider really opening his horse up at the end for a nice extended canter during the final wrap-up.

Can anyone tell me who they are and where they came from or where they train? Looked like a group of very nice riders and horses !!

This is from the Facebook status of Fryslan Valley a week or so ago:

The Boys Are In Town: The Friesian Stallions that are presenting the Friesian Train during the WEG opening-ceremony, have safely arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park. Ielke 382, Haitse 425, Jerke 434, Marten Hendrik, Casper van de Oostwal and Rintje V.are flanked in the KHP Big Barn by Lolke 371, Mintse 384 and Eeltsje… All are looking great and have made the trip safe and sound

I don’t know for sure, but I think the horses came from several different places, and put their performance together in Lexington. Fryslan Valley posted about practicing and putting the show together, and about how nice the horses were. He also posted a YouTube video of the practice performance, which I belive someone (Mike Matson maybe) also posted on the Off Course forum.

I believe that the friesian at the end was Fridse 423, he lives here in the US and is a KFPS Approved stallion. Six of the horses in the train reside in the Netherlands and were flown over with their trainers and grooms to be in the opening ceremonies. The other four (plus Fridse) live here in the US and are in training with various people. I cannot remember where they all are from, one is from CO, another MI, and a third MD. If you stop by the KFPS/FHANA booth, most of the American trainers have left their cards.

Ron Steur with Fridse 423, Brad Cutshall with Mintse 384, Kelly McGinn with Lolke 371, Nicole Gluesenkamp with Eeltsje F, Christa Laarakkers with Ielke 382, Susan Bouwman-Wind with Marten Hendrik, Saskia Meinema with Casper van de Oostwal, Sabine van de Loenhorst with Haitse 425, Marijke Folmer with Jerke 434 and Hans Megank with Rintje V.

Some of them were also scheduled for the closing of the show HOWEVER

Sudden end to the WEG opening show
As stated in an earlier post Christa Laarakkers with her Frisain horse was scheduled to perform the last show, together with Mario and his Andalusian Grey Horse. Christa tells on her website :

Just before we should enter the ring, one of the older Western riders got unwell, fell off his horse and stayed unconscious. At the moment when I write this he is still unconscious. Let’s hope he get’s well, because we build up a good relationship with him during the time he was stabled next to us.

So, this was the reason that the show stopped so suddenly, and we didn’t perform our show.

They were the top at the opening ceremony

Christa Laarakkers is the woman behind.

They were really great! I have never seen so many beautiful matching horses performing together.

Thanks for all the info - I hope we see them again in the closing ceremony!

No they fly home on wednesday

One of the riders is Nicole Glusenkamp, of Westmanton Stables, riding Eeltsje F (sire: Fabe 348), owned by Paula Marsh, Wynning Edge Friesians.

The others, according to Fryslan Valley Friesians:

Ielke 382 ridden by Christa Laarakkers (who is also directing the show), Rintje V ridden by Hans Meganck, Marten Hendrik ridden by Susan Bouwman-Wind, and Casper van de Oostwal ridden by Saskia Meinema.

There are also four American sport-type Friesian horses including three approved KFPS stud stallions (Fridse 423 Sport, Mintse 384 Sport and Lolke 371 Sport) and Eeltsje F (sire: Fabe 348) owned by Paula Marsch.

In addition to these horses, another three are in training as reserves: Arjen 417 Sport will be acting as a stand-in for the horses in the first group. The reserve horses for the second group are Moud Star (sire: Leffert 306 Sport) owned by Karen Waldron, and Arjen owned by Pieter Franken.

I saw a close-up of Lynn Jendrowski during the broadcast, so that means Moud was indeed bumped up from the reserves to perform. Pretty exciting for me, because they train right down the road from where I live
