Have a baby that will be starting over fences soon. Any recommendations as to which protective boots cause the least heat buildup & retention? My understanding is polo wraps are the worst for that, but I can’t find much on everything else… (outside of manufacturer claims…)
Check Gatusos. A tack snob (ie professional tack fitter) recently tried these and had zero sweaty legs despite the saddle area being sweaty
Thank you!. Very interesting, they look sort of like horsey crocs… Do you know if there is a USA distributor?
Whoa these are cool
I’m a fan of the Arma Air Motion brushing boots. Yesterday was our first proper warm day for the year where I live (~70F), I had a jump lesson, my horse was sweating (including under the saddle pad that he rarely sweats with, although to be fair, he’s still shedding out), and his legs were barely warm when I pulled his boots off. I probably wouldn’t run XC in them but for arena work or hacking out they’re great.
my friend is looking into becoming one, because apparently there isn’t yet!
These guys, maybe?
Another fan of Arma Air Motion brushing boots. They are multiple layers of mesh with a strike zone on the inner part. Just had to buy a new pair after 6 years on the first. Love 'em and they are very much in the economical price category!
Boots don’t do anything positive for tendons during exercise.
They can protect against outside impact/interference (but I think you meant more along the lines of “they don’t provide tendon support” which you are right about
)
While only fetlock sling type boots can provide “support” (proven, researched, reduces flexion a bit) they do provide a lot of contact protection
OH! I have not heard of these. I am intrigued. Purchased and shall report back.
Oh cool!! Please do report back, I think these are fascinating!
I’m also interested to hear about the Gatusos. I’ve had them stuck on my Pinterest board, but don’t have my mare jumping seriously enough to warrant buying them yet. I did find this European website that stocks them in more colors than Dapper Horse: https://www.myselleria.us/P1805-gatusos-front-tendon-boots-air-model
I just ordered the Gatusos Air tendon boots, from Outdoor Functional Wear, in Sweden. The Dapper Horse didn’t have anything other than XL, so I had to shop outside NA anyway. The other vendor which seemed pretty good to deal with was My Selleria, in Italy. I went with OFW because their customer response time was amazing - immediately after every one of my questions, and no complaints about how many questions I asked.
Cool, thanks! My mare has successfully jumped multiple crossrails at this point, so I’m sure we’re now eligible for some serious jumping kit
My Gatusos front tendon boots just arrived, and they are skookum! They are also very very light. Tomorrow morning will be my test ride in them.
Awesome! Please update us after use! Is the material like Crocs?
I’ve never had a pair of Crocs, so I’m not entirely sure, but I think these boots are much sturdier. I just rode with them, and while my horse was warm and wet when I finished, his legs were completely dry. Even the Equilibrium Stretch ‘n’ Flex Flatwork wraps with Stomatex didn’t give me that. They are really easy to put on, and don’t slip at all. They mold easily around the legs. I wasn’t sure about sizing, as they only come in L and XL, but the L size works well on the 15.2hh Appy/QH X I bought them for. He has fairly dainty legs, but they fit well, and would fit horses up to about 16hh. I think after that I’d want XL’s.
