I have a clients horse that had this procedure done locally. The horse had a less than 10 percent tear in a tendon. The vet decided to do this “new” procedure that has been used on people but not many horses. They claimed they had a Jumper go to the Olympics that they did the Tenex on and the horse had a much worse tear. Well the horse was not lame when it went in, just tender when the area was squeezed. He was lame when he came out of the procedure and when I asked I was told he could just be tender from it. Well 4 months later he was still not sound and the vet was extremely unprofessional to me and tried to blame it on his feet etc. So off we went for a second opinion and the tendon is 60% inflamed. He may only be pasture sound if he ever comes sound. I am just heartbroken for the owner and the horse.
I am sorry for them too.
Maybe the procedure can be successful, it is just the vet that does it you need to be aware of?
Well, but apparently the owner agreed to it. Did they ask the vet how many times he/she had performed it successfully?
I had a procedure done using tenex. The year prior my doctor did a plantar fascia resection. I was still having some issues after the rehab so she wanted to try tenex. She explained that it cleans up scar tissue and other damage from my initial injury without creating more damage. I’m not sure how this could fix the issue described in the horse’s injury. My foot still took another month or two before I was fully healed too.
