Tennessee Walking Horse Soring Issue *Update post 1*
How many DQ’s occured at Celebration this year? What was the attendance? What were the entry numbers in BL and also “standard” performance classes?
Was anyone charged with soring or transporting a sore horse to a show?

HSUS does NOT have these numbers. Keith Dane is not yet responding to any emails or questions.
ROFL… Keith absolutely has this information, I spoke to him about it at an event last night.

He’s pretty busy walking the walk helping horses - not from behind a computer. I’m sure he’ll have time to get back to you when Celebration has wound down.

But if you’re looking for that info, I read about it on Friday in the For the TWH FB group. There was an article in The Tennesean.
I’ve recently seen on line the hoof changes of a horse that was road foundered. The changes and damages were documented even after death. Very interesting.http://www.farrierart.com/road_founder.html

I’ve seen lots of leg wavers with feet that look just like this, jamming, dishing etc.

Another, it’s not a horse show but a human show.
IMO, the foot was a club - not a founder. The “sagging” of P3 and prolapse into the sole was a result of the misguided resection. IOW he had lamellar attachment, unlike a founder, until the farrier removed it with the resection(he took too much) and then the sole dropped. The proof is in the rings that came after the resection.

I am sure the horse was down with colic.

Just my O.

I love the Black Week moniker for this ‘event.’ Glad USDA is there.

We need us some Roy - is he following???

TTWHSHO just released the following press release. It is interesting to me that TWHSHO has appointed itself as an industry reform leader. Six of the seven board members have been “ticketed” in the past for violations of the Federal Horse Protection Act. The board members are Proctor Dean of North Carolina, Terry Dodson of Tennessee, Frank Eichler of Tennessee, Nancy Groover (Winky’s mother) from Texas, Bruce MacDonald of Georgia, Mrs. Lee McGartland of Texas, and Duke Thorson (of NASCAR truck fame) in Ohio. Guess this is part of the master plan from the marketing company they hired—Purple Strategies? Why do we need another summit? To postpone taking any immediate action? We already know what needs to be done. Just do it!! The Mantra: Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. PRESS RELEASE

615-556-7940TWSHO Calls on Parties Interested in Ending Horse Abuse to Join Industry Reform Leaders at a
‘Horse Protection Summit’ in Shelbyville

SHELBYVILLE, TN - The Celebration, TWSHO and SHOW HIO called on the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and all other parties interested in ending horse abuse to join industry reform leaders at a “Horse Protection Summit” in Shelbyville sometime before the end of November. The industry is calling on all concerned parties to join their reform efforts to ensure that all Tennessee Walking Horses are sound and in compliance with the Horse Protection Act (HPA). Interesting that this did not come across the AHP wire—just the social media outlet.

“On the heels of the historic safety reforms being implemented by SHOW HIO, the Walking Horse Trainers Association and the Celebration, we are inviting all parties interested in protecting the Tennessee Walking Horse to join us at a ‘Horse Protection Summit’ in Shelbyville. They are throwing the trainers under the bus—and WHTA is OK with this? TWSHO was created to reform the industry and we are asking that the AAEP and AVMA join us in working to achieve the shared goal of ridding the system of soring trainers once and for all,” said Frank Eichler, TWSHO Chair. I don’t remember this being their reason for being created—to reform the industry.

In early spring, we asked the AVMA and AAEP to join in our efforts but they declined. The “Horse Protection Summit” will provide an opportunity for those concerned about the Tennessee Walking Horse to partner in reforming the industry and build on the historic safety reforms already taking place within the Industry. Attending the “Horse Protection Summit” would allow them the opportunity to learn firsthand that SHOW HIO has implemented nearly every safety measure they have called for in the AAEP white paper. So this is really about SHOW. The industry’s actions illustrate how serious it is about reform. (But not serious enough to adopt the mandatory penalties?)

“Until the entire industry is at 100% compliance, we will not stop looking for ways to protect horses and maintain the integrity of the sport. We hope that the AVMA, AAEP and all other concerned parties will join us in that effort at a ‘Horse Protection Summit’ in Shelbyville,” concluded Eichler.

This is laughable, from e-mail I got.

A “summit” would be a Good Thing. The venue of Shellbyville is a Bad Thing. Nashville would be better; Denver or Dallas better yet.

G.

I think a summit, maybe a good thing, one on the west coast and one on the east coast, than a big get together in Canada.

or maybe have the whole summit in Canada. its not bound by our HPA.they just don’t do the BL.

can’t go to big D due to the court case.shelbyville is out do to the SLIME.

i know MAINE.

i do not think the AVMA,AAEP will back pedle on what they think summit or know summit

The heat is on as they say.

Everybody better get vocal and get writing.

That is for sure ! The lickers are pulling out all the stops.

i have made my call,to Hal Rogers office (202-225-4601) will follow up with letter. /e-mail or both.

we can put just as much heat on as they can,all it takes is the will to step-up .if you ride a twh or not, abuse is abuse.and it must STOP.

anyone can go to the POST OFFICE get a POST Card 35/45 cents and mail it to any one of the names on that list above. just let them know that just as many people want the usda to support the HPA.

oh your 35/45 encludes the stamp. get cracking folks we can do this

just like in the legally blond 2 movie, we can do this call your friends and neighbors.ask them to send a card.or ask them to sign a letter you have already prepared.

i know some of you may LOL @ me. i don’t really care if you do,my church family will step up.what about yours.

I doubt he is writing a letter saying “back off”. What’s the source of this? Is there a copy of the letter available? Do we know exactly what he’s saying?

One of my “locals” is on the member list. I will visit his headquarters this week.

Rbow the letter is on Gov. letterhead, its very strong and what is meant can not be mistaken.

seems the Slime folks are really worried. well i say lets give them something to worry about.

there are enough pictures of sored abused TWH,to paper the walls of Hal Rogers Office. lets send him some. along with every name on the list.
oh and maybe he needs to read a copy of the HPA.

Is this another marketing tactic from Purple Strategies? TWHSHO and SHOW—the self proclaimed industry reform leaders. SHOW—the HIO that refused to adopt the mandatory penalties—is now going to be a self proclaimed expert on HPA enforcement and educate the reporters? SHOW—the HIO who is suing the USDA? Will someone please put an END to this utter nonsense? TWSHO Will Hold Press Conference to Educate the Media and Public on Most Subjective Part of Horse Inspection Process;

The only radiograph showing the P3 had dropped was BEFORE the re-section. I agree on the colic. A ton of trauma going on for the old guy.

Believe me when I say it takes an entire year to rehab a stalled and padded horses hoof. (Not a TWH but an ASB). I watched my own raised colt feet go from beautiful to crap in a mere 8 months. All four had thrush. They were soft on their way to dishing. Many of these horses CANNOT be shown without pads because their feet ARE crap mostly because of the lack of using them, reducing blood flow to the hoof. Use of cobra venom comes to mind as the fix.

Horsekeeping 101, they MUST move. 1,000,000 years of evolution hasn’t changed. They are built to move and humans think it’s unnecessary.

SHOW press conference video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfo9ritDM-U

the bottom line is YOU can not compromise with EVIL,the AVMA AAEP have stepped up to say that THOSE HUGH STACKS on that TWH are harmful.

Those men boohooing about a ruling,is just another way form them to throw crap at other inspectors.

SHOW INC can not be trusted period.nor can Dr.Mullins, they covered up the horrible abuse of this breed of horse for some 20 plus yrs.

YOU can not compromise with EVIL.

who are the DQP,who are they related to, who owns them?

I still say we need to use independant inspectors from another region not KY not TN not ALA not Miss, NOt TX. say u of ca DAVIS,a real Lab real VET Techs.

Not school bus drivers.
