Tennessee Walking Horse Soring Issue *Update post 1*

[QUOTE=WalkInTheWoods;6365301]
McConnell goes to court in Fayette county June 26. On June 28 theTWHBEA is having a closed door hearing to oust Keith Dane from his Maryland director position saying his actions are not in the best interest of the TWHBEA. They can get away with this crap ? Roy adds a few more HPA violators to the BL cast of characters.

Oh, goody. I’ll be able to attend, as I live in Fayette county and I’m off work that week.

Ditto.

I recieved more email responses from Mr. Hamilton from PRIDE, and they were none too pretty. I’m now racist, and do not care about child abuse, nor abuse in other horse breeds and industry, and I only care about picking on TWH.

sigh

Well, now, that was certainly professional of him…

I figured that he ran out of REAL ammo/defenses and that’s all he had left.

You’re racist? ROFLMAO!!! You’re right, he has no defense.:lol::lol:

I had to bite back the urge to tell him, “but my horse is black!” Poor example of humor, I know, but it still tickled my funny bone a little bit while I replied in a profesional manner. MINUS the smart a$$ racial comment.

Char - check your email

Now that’s funny…I don’t care who you are.:lol::lol::lol:

Char,

Why don’t you forward all those emails to Roy Exum (the man writing the columns for the Tennessean). I bet he would have a field day with that! Or have them published in the TWH mags.

Should’ve said it, too funny! Racism has nothing whatsoever to do with this issue. Just shows how far out in left field these people are. Off the wall!!!

Very good to see this thread and the conversation rides on! Thank you all for the updates on the legal efforts and as well the good links.

No stacks, no chains, lose the heavy shoes!

Wanted to share I recently spoke with someone very active in the Morgan saddleseat show industry about how they have viewed these TWH events.

SHe knew little to nothing about it.

But she did go on to say that the Morgan saddleseat folks are really becoming more permissive with the use of action devices, tail sets, gingerng, house slippers, stretchies chains, built up shoes, etc., etc. Stating that only the “classic” Morgan type classes are sticking with the old rules that used to forbid these action devices for all Morgans.

Slippery slope was my comment.

At which point she brought up rolkur, poleing and WP.

And that deflection tactic I am sure is the same BS all the paying owners are fed by their less than stellar trainers.

The Morgan horse industry acceptance of these mechanical artificial training methods to get a flamboyant show horse is pretty sad turn of events.

IMO the only way to prevent the a total loss of saddleseat horsemanship that has become the stacks and chains of the TWH is to keep the discussion of the detriment of these mechanical devices active in all breeds - not just the TWH. It will take a good self exam by all those that value the high step to stop the stacks and chains of the TWH. A horse industry wide effort by many breeds is the kind of support and attention that will result in relief for the walking horse.

Should this effort that was reborn from the HSUS not succeed in stopping the soring and stacking of the TWH- hopefully some ripple effect to other saddle seat industries will open eyes and prevent their further decline.

I have used chains, wooden rollers and stretchies for 40 years and have NEVER had a sore horse…Arabian or Saddlebred. I also have round pens where I put straw and waste from the sheds in a pin wheel formation and have the horses lunge over them to increase stride and height. I have also used cavaletti’s for the same reason.

They are RESISTENCE training equipment.

No resistence, no development. Any athlete knows that.

The soring paste is the problem.

Lets not get discouraged in our battle to end soring of the TWH. Keep it alive! Here is a befitting quote i ran across this morning:

I always wondered why somebody doesn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody. Lily Tomlin

Your statement shows the limits of what you know and what you wish to know. There are far better ways to train. And the movement of the horse developed through “true” training is much different from what you have come to believe is correct for the horse.

Nice Walking horse from Israel

Beautiful sweeping gait. Enjoy the slo mo.

That’s the type of TWH that should be winning. I know this thread is about the big lick, but it’s good that people are posting links to correct walking horses. I’m sure there are people reading this thread who don’t know much about walkers and they need something to compare to the big lick. He’s certainly a better walker than that pacey Champagne Watchout.

I just found this thread, and I have an unpapered TWH. Now I’m glad he’s not registered.

I have read over much of what has been written on this subject. If the judges will stop pinning the stacked shoes and the abnorml gaits then there will be no question. But until the "trainers " and Owners are not rewarded for the abnormal shoeing and abnormal gaits then it will die out. Same in the other breed shows. When the abnormal headsets and other abnormal practices are not rewarded by ribbons then it will stop.
Yes by all means write to the persons who will have the most effect on this but it starts with and finishes with the Judges who reward the practices by pinning them in the ribbons. JMHO
