Tennessee Walking Horse Soring Issue *Update post 1*
In some of these same places, 150 years ago, it was argued that the economy and livelihood of the people depended on the torture and misery of beings considered expendable because they were not human.
Well said.

Actually I have wore my chains quite a bit. Lol. I wore them for a few days to see what it would be like. I had no problems. I also have used them on more than one occasion during physical therapy to rebuild muscles in my legs after injuring my knee.

I get so tired of the whining about the economy in Shelbyville/Bedford Co. that was built on the suffering of the TWH. I simply don’t care about it, nor do any of the sound horse people I’ve talked to. That hell hole can be bulldozed as far as I’m concerned.

If 96% of padded horses are clean, then why do all but a tiny handful of ̶p̶a̶d̶d̶e̶d̶ stacked horse exhibitors scurry like cockroaches the second the USDA shows up at a show? If you (the ̶p̶a̶d̶d̶e̶d̶ stacked faction of TWH exhibitors) want to prove there is nothing to hide then why do the undeniable vast majority refuse to have their horses inspected by the USDA?

If 96% of ̶p̶a̶d̶d̶e̶d̶ stacked horses are not sored and the industry is not covering anything up, then why the discrepancies between the number of violations given out by DQPs and USDA inspectors?

And finally how can you, in all seriousness, chemicals and pressure shoeing and soring and stewarding aside, argue that turning this:

into this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwrel&NR=1&v=mizTT4ZSf1Q
does no harm to the horse?

The squatting, the hyperflexion of the front legs, the sheer size and weight of those STACKS of pads?

I am sorry, but anyone that thinks the artificial, contrived, man-made big lick gait causes the horse no pain or long-term damage is off their rocker.
They are off their rockers, they have no conscience, and pathological liars as well.

Take some sand paper, scrape up your ankles, splash with turpentine then get back to me.

ETA then throw a few rocks inside your shoes and WALK HARD.

I agree that “everyone will suffer from the Celebration boycotts” but really the dirty BL people will suffer more because this show has always catered to them anyway.

But as far as the clean and sound people having been silent-- that is far from the truth-- the BL folks with the hegemony they have held for so many decades were able to marginalize ad silence the most outspoken against this abuse, and the rest of the sheeple got the Tennessee Boy’s message.

NOT everyone was silent. But if you spoke up or tried to take any action, you were quickly silenced through implied threats and unfair judging.
After more than a decade of “activism” I moved on precisely because it was plain to me that the rank and file of the TWH industry were not ready to take back what had been stolen from them. When pressed on the issues, they sounded like Rudy, Gnali, and Cordial (denying that the BL process causes problems; if there were problems it was a small number of bad apples; that they were being unfairly picked on; etc. ) Nothing has changed even unto today.

So it remains to be seen if the current furor will result in industry behavioral change.

Rudy lets sand your ankles, rub them with MUSTARD OIL,put some stacks under your worn contracted heels, lets not forgget the clear wrap,to help the heat build.than we’ll run ya up and down the runway of the barn while you are blindfolded,so we can jab ya with a cattle prode.

do you think if someone saw us doing this to you they would REPORT us to the sheriff for abuse.

you bet your SWEET A-- they would and we would go to JAIL not pass go and not collect, the BIG BUCKS at the CELEBRATION.

SO WHY CAN"T THE GOOD FOLKS OF BEDFORD county do the RIGHT thing STOP the SORING and ABUSE at the Celebration.

because they are owned by the TWH MOB,thats why.

prove me wrong BEDFORD.stop the BIG LICK Class at the celebration this yr here and NOW.

Oh, dear Lord. They do the blind fold thing, too? On top of everything else?
The people who do this kind of thing CAN’T have a soul.

DITTO. If their economy is dependent upon the abuse of this wonderful breed, then it is a house of cards built on sand and needs to fall hard.

Full blinders are not uncommon. The horse will really reach. Hell I would, too. Wouldn’t you?

I don’t mind chains…just as draw reins CAN have their place, or a chambon, or side reins without elastic. They aren’t all trussed up like Power and Paint. Some of the tools have a purpose.

Some of the bits, though- I can’t wrap my mind around.

If the Performance Horses are such a small percentage of TWH, how could eliminating their classes possibly ruin the small town economy? That doesn’t make sense.

why would one of the big shows in western Tn,make a statement NO more crippled Horses for crippled Children. if they did not agree that this practice of stacks and packages hurt the Horse.

ending the Performance Horse Classes, wont hurt the celebration, it will hurt the Shelbyville Godfather Mullins, and is gang.but if the GOOD ( i use this term questionably) people of Shelbyville, Franklin, Bell Buckle just all of Bedford County stood up and said we do not want to be known as the community that supported the practice of Soring and Abusing of the Tn Walking Horse. now wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants to ole DOC Mullins.

AAEP
AVMA
Farrier Journal
USDA
all believe these Stackes and Packages hurt the Horses, now you are telling us they DONT,well i beg to differ with you, i know they do i was in the barns yrs ago.i know what Good ole boy W.G. did to the horses in his charge.

End the BIG YUCK NOW. Prohibit stacks of pads, hoofbands, outrageously heavy shoes that cover almost the entire sole of a horse’s front hooves, and ANY kind of action device being used ANYWHERE on the show grounds.

End the BL and the people who want to show natural and clean will flock back to the show ring!!

End the BL and the good trainers who don’t mind putting in the time to develop a horse the right way without any gimmicks, soring and stewarding will still be able to make a living-- the rest can go drive trucks or something.

End the BL and the good breeders who know how to breed for a natural gait will be able to save the breed before it is TOO LATE!

If you LOVE the breed, stand up to end the BL! The BL is artificial, ugly and harmful to the horses.

I just called Coca Cola Corporate and told them I will no longer be a customer. The guy said they, and none of their bottlers sponser anything involving animal cruelty, that the people requesting sponsership must assure Coke that no animal cruelty involved. Yeah right!!! I lost patience, told the guy he obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I couldn’t find an e-mail addy to send a copy of the McConnell tape, will look some more. BTW, I asked the guy what exactly is Coke’s definition of cruelty, he stammered around, never gave me a straight answer. I also called the Tullhoma bottler, pretty much same thing. The number for Coke Corporate is 800-Get-Coke.

Well, the World Equestrian Games returned the TWHBEAs check and wouldn’t allow them to be a part of WEG last year, I think Coca Cola needs to be reminded about how many equine organizations market Coke products and don’t agree with the abuse.

So is Coca-Cola stepping in and sponsoring the Celebration since Pespi bowed out?

ETA: Ugh, just saw Roy Exum’s column and did some googling. Guess it’s time to start emailing Coca-Cola and blowing up their FB page with comments: http://www.facebook.com/cocacola
