My friend and I are really looking forward to making the journey to Virginia for this event! We’ve never hunted in Virginia, and we can do about 7 days. We are both bold, experienced foxhunters. So, here’s my question - which seven days? What kind of experience would come from picking various “seven day sequences”? What would others choose, and why?

I’d do Keswick-Deep Run. But I’m NoVa-centric biased.
Any and all are good - choose according to your schedule.
Sat. Oct. 19 is also the International Gold Cup races in The Plains, though one could not hunt with Keswick and make hte races both. One would have to choose. Keswick is superlative - hounds, huntsman, territory, game.
But, then again, all of them are.

PS One’s reasoning may be that you can base in one place for some or all of a 7 day period and hunt from a single spot.

Thank you, Hunter’s Rest! You rock!

I belong to Farmington and Keswick, so I’d throw Farmington and Oak Ridge in at the beginning of the suggested seven days!

But yes, all are wonderful. And you will be well fed.

Aaaand I think the website (obviously a typo) lists Farmington as October 27th, when clearly, as Hunter’s Rest indicated, it’s meant to be the 17th at this point.

Thank you for the tips! Any more?

Don’t most people bring two horses (out of state riders) so they can hunt every day but give their horses a rest. Are some of the more Southern VA hunts towards the beginning sort of in the big hills or mountains?

Bedford through Casanova would be an interesting mix. You’d have all kinds of territory from flat to mountains over those seven days.

For staying in one place, I might pick Farmington through Old Dominion. If you base around Culpeper then the only long drive you would have would be to Oak Ridge.
