I think its just an awk 60 (50?) something year old trying to figure out the best way to promote his brand. Clearly with mixed successes.

Maybe, but knowing them, ehhhh. True colors and all. 
Rick is a boisterous, busy, noisy guy. He founded and grew a cosmetology school into a solid business and is still CEO. He’s not some bumbling older guy with his first smart phone lol. He likes to be the center of attention and is happy to feign being surprised or bemused when he gets that attention.
