Terranova-Lauren Nicholson what happened?

After seeing Lauren Nicholsons post about Terranova and given how incredibly vague it was. I’m curious if anyone knows what happened? Feel like more and more these days everyone is being forced to not speak up so issues can be swept under the rug easily.

Came here to make this post. What @crazyeventer is referencing: https://www.instagram.com/p/DH9QJ5EJkFU/

I think the hard part is if those who see the things with their own eyes don’t speak up , then those who are on the inner circle and hear about it, we can’t say what it is because it’s second or third through communication.
I wish someone who saw the things themself would speak out.

I’m very interested in whatever happened… I’m hoping there’s more info soon? Obv Lauren feels like it’s important.

I don’t see facebook so I don’t know what was said.

In the results, there were four rider falls in the 4* (two by P.Dutton, hope he’s fine.) Some discrepancies between dressage judges scores (that’s somewhat usual) and throughout the divisions some pins and flag penalties and some Es for show jumping rails.

I saw one of those on the live stream, and he got right up immediately. The horse looked fine.

They said he and the horse also looked fine after the other one, which they did not show on the live stream, since they had the camera pointed at a different horse at that moment.

Glad he seems to have bounced well.

:+1:
I’m sure that wasn’t Lauren’s complaint though, I was just looking at the scores and penalties and trying to see if anything looked odd.

Someone commented something about “two high level female riders having a disagreement, one of which is known to not follow the rules”

It sounds like there was some mishap in the cross country warm up?

I also would agree we are seeing many riders (especially around the 3* level) who are quite terrifying to watch, and I’m glad professionals are now willing to call it out!

I have a lot of respect for her and after reading her post its frustrating to not know what happened. She should be able to factually state what she witnessed and I hate that riders feel like they cant speak about what they saw with their own eyes to try to put an end to bad behavior.

Commenting to follow along-I just saw the post as well. My assumption was initially that it had something to do with the 15 penalty points she was awarded since those are controversial typically but the mention of the back and forth at the start box has thrown me off.

i may be wrong, or outdated, but FEI used to require you to sign an NDA.

Given the fact that the FEI does NOT have horse welfare in mind like at all, I’d almost bet there’s some sort of red tape involved in allowing riders to speak out on issues publicly.

If it happened at the start box maybe it was a tack issue? Maybe the legality of something?

The FEI’s social media policy allows them to sanction athletes who post anything negative about the FEI, officials, events, etc. There was a lot of controversy when the rule change was proposed that this would be used to censor anyone who raised legitimate concerns even if they were doing it professionally. I’m assuming that’s what Lauren was referring to when she wrote about framing things “positively” for her post.

Her comment has been deleted… Now I’m even more curious what it said.

Lauren uses discretion in calling out riders, which is very professional of her. It is great to see her speaking out in a sport where VIP riders rule the roost and not in a positive way. One of the riders, rides multiple horses in each division, that should give you a clue on who this person is.

It wasn’t called out. It was VaguePosting. If you don’t want to “name names”, if it bothers you enough to post, it hurts no one to say what happened and leave names out. It comes off as whiney without details.

Lauren speaking up about something would have me assume it was something significant.

It sounds serious. I agree it is frustrating how hush-hush issues and snafus at the ULs have become. The weight of several factors are at play here: risk of losing sponsors, social license, and professional blowback from making your opinion heard.

I’m not sure if this is intended at me directly, but I wasn’t there, and am just as in the dark, no no names to name here. Was just reporting what I saw elsewhere.

If its at Lauren, while I agree curious minds are frustrated, I think her way of handling it is class.
