Terranova-Lauren Nicholson what happened?

One was yellow carded. Plenty of people saw it. Public, social media opinion was that the officials were picking on the small time riders.

The other was in front of multiple FEI officials. The person got a talking to. Said person occasionally gets talking to’s so this was nothing new.

Lauren is not talking about Surratt. The rider she’s talking about is CP who was named several times up thread.

Ugh. Well at least there was a minimum of something. I’m kind of of the opinion that incidents need to be officially reported for anything to ever change.

Not sure why there is so much beating around the bush going on in this thread. Lauren saw Caroline hit or do something inappropriate to a horse in warmup. Lauren called her out. Nothing came of it. Lauren made her post.

I apologize for a “bit” of a derailment (and a bad pun): could anyone quickly explain the mechanics of this bit? I’ve never used it or even seen one in person (and for the record, I’ve spent more than a decade in the barn of riders who have ridden on Olympic, World, and Pan Am teams) and I don’t quite understand how it would act on a horse.

They are used a lot in racing. They help keep the horse straight at speed. They aren’t unduly harsh, IMO, and the reason this bit is banned XC is because the ring part was seen as dangerous if it got caught on something, not that the bit itself was unduly harsh.

Did they delete the post or am I dumb not able to find it?

It’s still there on major league

Some of the trainers may have realized it. May have said so. Sometimes that’s a reason behind a revolving door of trainers. Expectations by owners / riders that are beyond reality.

I have no idea about this case, though.

It, along with 28 comments, is on her facebook page as well.

I inadvertently ran across the LN FB post today (it may have been shared). I must say, after reading this thread, suddenly the full post made a lot more sense. I had an idea of what she was trying to say.

The context, background, history … the world surrounding LN’s post is needed to make it relevant. Thanks for the details that have been shared in this thread. Even if they can’t be definitive about the specific cause(s) behind the post, they have been explanatory about things troubling some leading eventers today.

If it matters, the quality of officiating is a common complaint among sports that have become ever more skilled and more professional, while the standards of the officiating lags behind. A chronic challenge in sports.

My bad, I was looking at the major league eventing page

Thanks, I was looking at the wrong spot!

I realize I think we are thinking of different things… I was trying to find the post with Denny’s comment

I was trying to find dennys comment

I have, granted it was many moons ago. I was never flagged by officials or had multiple talk to me.

That comment (on officials crying) is referred in the Wallace Eventing post. Rick’s post was shared by Wallace Eventing to several different Facebook pages. However, I don’t know the author of the comment or his relation to Wallace Eventing. Someone else might. So, it can be a little difficult to navigate those comments as they are made on different pages. The most engaged are on the business page and on Major League Eventers

LN posted her statement on her business facebook page and reshared on her instagram. (The post may have been shared by others, but the author posted to only those platforms)

It can be difficult to navigate these two posts because we are commenting at the same time. But to summarize they are not directly related about the one or the other individual. But, their themes both do include actions of officials. One for not speaking out, the other on saying things out of hand.

Thank you I appreciate you taking the time to type that out haha I was struggling!

At the risk of veering even further off topic on this thread, I just wanted to comment that among the myriad things officials are supposed to know and do, it seems like the RIDER’s mental state or confidence level is NOT and should not be something they need to worry about. Obviously, a tactful approach is important, but an official refraining from saying something they feel they need to say because it might undermine the rider’s confidence is not acceptable.

100%, it reminds me of When people say they’re not responsible for other people’s triggers. We can all be kind cordial and empathetic, But sometimes people’s jobs are to tell you what you don’t wanna hear and that’s just that.
