I’m bringing up this topic, not because there needs to be any more rehash of the discussion as a result of this article. 700 plus FB comments to date. https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/a-bold-clip-job-is-turning-heads-at-the-u-s-dressage-finals/?fbclid=IwAR2RHeHioOBMYYrlRjWjLRuNVQkjp1F32Po1IqyvmyOS30Pna3N8qojGjwk
But I am curious so that I understand this correctly. So this type of clip job is
usef legal. But what if she were sponsored by Purina? Would that make a difference? What if the clip job had a business logo, your favorite sports team logo, religious symbols, etc.
I wonder if at some point there might be some language in the rule book about any limitations?
IMO, its a slippery slope. What if she clipped ‘jail Trump’ or ‘lets go Brandon’? Or turned the horse into a giraffe like the Halloween costume classes? There has to be a line or someone will cross into bad taste.
There is no current rule and she has mad clipping skills. But I wouldnt be surprised to see a new rule about it. I mean, we dont allow colored braids or glitzy saddle pads or sparkle on hooves - this is a whole new avenue of decoration that wasnt envisioned when the rules were written.
Im one who believes the horse is beautiful all on his own. We dont need to decorate them. But, I judge whats in front of me as long as its legal. Would I have done it to one of my own? No. Then again, I never even had a white lined noseband lol.
It would be sort of hilarious if there were 20 horses with 20 different clip jobs at the same show next year. Or 40. Or 100. Although there are probably not that many people who are that skilled or inventive with the clippers. Lol.
I think it is awesome! It looks great. I think we should relax the existing rules as well. It’s supposed to be fun!
Does anyone know where to find pictures of her previous horses with unusual clip jobs?
People need to relax. I remember when certain “flashy” coat colors were derided as “distracting” but it was really latent bias against off-breed horses.
We survived the integration of bling brow bands, we shall survive clip art too.
The link just takes you to the COTH article. How do you see the comments?
I personally dislike it, as well as her boots, but am glad that riders now have more leeway to choose a look they enjoy.
I believe they were on the facebook version of coth.
You just have to go to The Chronicle of the Horse page on Facebook and scroll down to this article.
Makes me think of what a trainer once told me about pushing the boundaries in the hunters. If you’re going to stand out …… you better be twice as good.
The boots and coordinating outfit are amazing!
I agree about riders having some freedom to choose how they dress. However, I find her helmet and boots ghastly.
She’s mid-way down

Given her scores on that horse, pretty sure she’s comfortably in the “good enough to throw caution to the wind” category
Thanks!!
Well good for her then. (: just sharing a thought.
I had a trainer say this when I wanted a Shadbelly in a very dark dark dark hunter green. I can remember scribing a show when navy coats were first permitted and a judge seemed overly preoccupied asking me if a riders coat looked blue or black. Have no idea what she was so wrapped up in
So you can’t see the comments unless you have a Facebook account! Very inclusive (not).
I can see the comments in incognito mode when I’m not logged in so you should be able to, I think.
