The ads on the right are overlapping my private message box!!

If you’re experiencing a formatting issue where the ad bar on the right side of the page is overlapping the private message area, and there are menu items jumbled to one side of the screen, and you’re using Internet Explorer as your web browser, please click the compatibility view icon.

The icon looks like a piece of paper torn in half up by the URL field where our web address appears at the top of the page.

Thanks!
Mod 1

I’m only getting ad overlap on certain forums. For example, in here, there is no ad overlap, but in the breeding forum, I am getting piles of overlap and the message width is twice as wide as it shows up here.

If I click the compatibility icon, then your address box is jumbled, as are the list of items where it states welcome, last visit date, etc, but then at least I can see the posts in the forum. Also the menu bar goes to the far right and becomes useless.

Then, if I go to another forum that wasn’t too wide too begin with, then I need to reclick the compatibility icon again to view it properly.

I’m using internet explorer 9.

Help?

rodown, this page?

The problem there has nothing to do with your browser. Molly99 posted a table that is wider than our forum layout, which has caused the forum column to extend under the ads for that page only. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Mod1, can you limit the pixel width of inserted tables?

I went to the compatibilty view and it fixed nothing

Well, you have to take it OUT of compatibility view. Not put it IN.

I’m on an I-phone and don’t see the icon.

Mod 1,

What do you do if you are on a Mac and there is no compatibility icon?

Do I have to live with ads pasted over things?

Why?

You will only find the compatibility icon in internet explorer.

I cannot replicate any display issues with Safari for Windows, so no ideas there. Download Firefox or Chrome.

If you’re in another browser and are experiencing consistent overlap issues (or other major formatting issues), please send me an email at admin1@chronicleforums.com with what browser and device (if applicable) you’re using and a description of the issue.

If you can include a screen shot, that would be terrific. Here’s a tutorial on how to take a screen shot: http://www.take-a-screenshot.org

Please try checking out another page of the thread you’re viewing, or another thread first to see if it’s a case of the formatting of a particular post making the field too wide. If the issue is limited to a particular page, please send me a link to that page and we’ll try to fix it. We adjusted the width of the table referenced earlier in the thread to fix that page, and we’ll look into adjusting the parameters on the posts if it’s possible/a common issue.

Thanks!

Mod 1, here is the only other instance of table breakage that I have seen:

http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?382843-A-friendly-reminder/page2

Most people seem to be referencing the breeding forum when they are talking about this, so perhaps that’s it.

I took it out of compatibility view and nothing happened. I am on a netbook so that may be part of the problem. I started to download chrome, and it said it would take 3 hours due to the connection I have out here at the farm, so I guess I will just have to wait.

Fixed that one too – thank you! When I get back from vacation, I’ll talk to the development team about limiting parameters on table width.

Are you having issues on every page? What kind of netbook and what browser and version are you using?

Thanks so much!

I have constant issues when in PMs - and have specifically used compatibility view. I have Windows XP with IE 7 and had to go to Google Chrome. That is the only fix.

Edited to fix version #.

You may have better luck with IE 8:

Although Chrome works just fine, too  But if you prefer IE, then it’s worth a shot to upgrade. IE 7 is really, really out of date and has security holes that are fixed in 8.

I\ll just have to do without - it is all double Dutch to me.

I cannot send PM’s…not a big deal.

I have issues all the time on my iPad running iOS7 using the default Safari browser. It seems to be random, only happens in a thread (not on the forum page), and doesn’t happen to all threads or all pages of a thread. I will pay attention next time and try to capture some screenshots and note which pages of the thread.
