The authentic Gelderlander breed is retained

On 25 July 2019, the Dutch national Service for Entrepreneurial Netherlands (RVO), which grants the studbook recognitions on behalf of the Dutch government, has recognized the Klassiek Paarden Stamboek (KPST) as the studbook for the breed Classical Gelderlander horse. Thanks to the Dutch Parliament, the Klassiek Paarden Stamboek (KPST), the studbook for this centuries-long famous horse breed, has finally received the important government recognition under the regulations of the European Union.

This is great news for the Gelderlander horses. KWPN has not focused on preserving the Gelderlander bloodlines and has approved horses that they see as Gelders in type but do not have a significant amount of Gelders blood in the pedigree. This new registry’s aim is to maintain the Gelderlander bloodlines and the qualities typically associated with horses with a Gelderlander pedigree. The Gelderlander is bred to be a multipurpose horse of good character. They have been successfully competed at the highest levels in jumping, dressage, and combined driving. Just this past weekend a Gelders stallion (Henkie) placed 6th in the Dressage World Breeding Championships for Young Horses - seven year olds. Last year, my half-Gelders filly Nora-Dessa placed 7th in North America in the KWPN-NA Keurings in the dressage foals category.
