while i totally get what you are saying, our barn is not like that at all. it is a trail barn, no one shows. The boarders are mostly middle class women struggling to afford to keep their horses. We are not snobbish at all, we don’t treat the barn staff like underlings. In fact, like i said, i’m the type to bring the staff coffee or hang out with them while they work. all the boarders at the farm at this time are down to earth and not demanding. All we ask is clean water, decent hay and feed them when they need it. i pay the BM to fly spray my horse, and others have similar arrangements for fly spraying. BB is just miserable all the time. You can walk into the barn one day and she’s your best friend or the next day and she hates your guts.[/QUOTE]
Hypothetically speaking and with a collective “you”… here’s another perspective from a retired barn manager…
If you are hanging in a stall doorway carrying on about your horse, your job, your personal life while I am trying to clean 6 stalls so I can start the evening turn-in and feed, I might would be a bit stand-offish as well. If I stopped work to chat with you, then someone may consider that “wasting time”. If I try to nod and say “uh-huh”, “gotcha”, to every little piece of conversation you’re offering WHILE I AM CLEARLY WORKING, it’s really my way of trying to say “I’m busy and I have a lot of work to do to take care of all these horses”, then please take a hint and go groom your horse.
At any rate, to someone who has never actually had to do barn work, it may be a bit hard to understand.
Hopefully the peace will soon be restored.
