The best breeches

I have been wearing smartpak piper breeches for years because I can get them on sale for $35. Recently, it seems that they stretch out so quickly that even that price is not worth it. I tried the Tredstep Nero Symphony breeches and those completely stretched in less than a month.
What have you found to be the most comfortable and durable breeches? I ride 2-4 horses a day and end up wearing each pair of breeches one or two times a week. Does anyone have a brand that has really worked? I am finally willing to shell out if there is something people can vouch for.
Thanks!

Romfh Sarafinas are some of my favorites. Super comfy IMO and I have never paid full price, so hunt around for some sales!

I like Trainer’s Choice. You can usually find on sale on eBay or Amazon. I like the Rene style.

I have been wearing Cavallo (Candy, lower rise) and Pikeur (Laguna, higher rise), both of which I bought on deep discount. These are the models (full seat) that fit me OK, both brands have many models for many body types and I’m sure all their models have the same quality. They are holding up well.

I too started out with Elation from Greenhawk (Canada) because I could get them on sale for $50, full price $89 back then, but I was wearing out the full seats, actual holes in the fake suede, within a year.

I got my Pikeur from https://www.equineandcountry.com/ right after Brexit when the pound exchange value tanked  and the Cavallos from https://equestrianfashionoutfitters.com/ I’ve had them all for 3 to 5 years riding every day, and they are holding up well.

B Vertigo full seats, any style, any color. Expensive but worth the $$$ !

I am pretty obsessed with Pikeur. They are basically tanks, don’t let the price scare you. If you put in the effort you can get them for a reasonable cost. You can find them on clearance from smartpak sometimes if you’re lucky and they have your size just check the pikeur selection about once a week (no joke I got ciaras for $70 on smartpak once) or I buy them from Europe, usually on sale/clearance and -the VAT and with shipping they are still significantly less than TS. I got 2 pairs from the UK for $230 including shipping recently, thats only 115 a pair (clearance, but they were 165 usd for full price with VAT). I have some sites I use if you are interested in that route
They don’t stretch out for me, they wash really well, don’t pill, true to size. I’ve known people who had theirs for years. Better quality than TS imo. Theres a reason they have been around for years.

For cheaper options I had irideon tights actually last a long time, Romfh are nice too. I haven’t had them very long so I don’t know about durability but the Hadleys seem nicer than Pipers. If you ride multiple horses a day and are having big issues with breech wear out it may be worth the investment to get Pikeur.

No body has mentioned tailored?

I’ve bought all my tailored sportsman trophy hunters used ($110 or less). They are all in working order. My very favorite pair I use 3 times a week or more. I did have a zipper come off the track, but got it back on and super glued the bottom. I also have had some loose stitching – but I’ve had these for about 3 years and like I said I bought them used. I also stitched the lo0se thread easily.

I have a brown pair that I bought mint condition. Had a bad fall and ripped the knee out. I patched it and I still wear those puppies because BOY are they comfortable.

Get the newer blends – there’s some older ones with like lycra or something in them. But I wash these and leave them out to dry and they don’t ever stretch out like my smartpaks have.

I would agree that my Pikeur seem to be even tougher than the Cavallos. Mine were $300 CAN for two including shipping from the British online retailer I linked to, and they are close to $300 a pair retail in Canada. Definitely a better deal than tossing out a pair of Greenhawk Elation every year!

Absolutely! And Pikeurs can be found on sale and clearance which TS is almost always exempt from. The ones I just snagged for 115 a pair inc shipping are a model that is on smartpak for $310 a pair. I mean TS are good too but Pikeur can be found cheaper and I think they are even more durable. The only thing is they are a bit on the heavy side so not always my choice for 90+ degree summer riding. I haven’t had my silicone grip models as long as my suede ones so I don’t know if the silicone will wear out faster, but the suede patches are very thick and heavy duty and stitched on really well. The Pikeur patches are not nearly as delicate as TS ones. I mean I like TS too, but for the money I’d rather shell out for Pikeur any day. They also have a much wider choice of models and features than TS. I haven’t tried Cavallos yet, I need to branch out but when ordering from overseas I tend to stick with what I know I like and will fit

I love romfh, tailored, ariat, and tuff riders if you want some super cheap durable schooling breeches. I use my tuff riders when I know I’m going to be working 4+ horses because they’re comfortable and they never seem to wear out. I’ve had a pair for over 3 years now and nothing seems to break them
