The "best" western cinch

Alright, so I don’t want any arguments here, just some good, respectful discussions. I have experienced people taking my posts the wrong way and I don’t want that to happen on this thread.

Now to the point. I have decided the “best” cinch for one of my horses is a shaped neoprene roper (sort of) style cinch. I have done lots of searching and experimenting. I have seen the new innovations and the classics but I found what I need. If you guys could help me find one like these, I would greatly appreciate it. The ones I have found are no longer available or are for sale on a sketchy website.

I would love to hear what your favorite types of cinches are and why.

I love this cinch for my horse Red and this cinch for my horse Shotgun.

I used the Ventech girth linked to above. I wrap it in a standing wrap if my horse is sensitive to neoprene.

For my purposes, I prefer the string mohair or alpaca cinches.
I tried the neoprene cinches years ago and didn’t like it. I realize they have come a long way since but why fix what isn’t broken?

I use these. I live in TN, and when I was using mohair cinches I had a hard time getting them to dry in between rides due to humidity. I can wash these and they are dry 5-10 minutes later.

This is what I use, and I love how easily they clean up and dry.

Check out this one; http://www.flexiworksequine.com/Flexi-Girth-Western-Cinch-Brown

This a very reputable shop, put neoprene cinches in the search box.

Look for the Mustang PVC Neoprene Cinch some times it is at the top of the page sometimes its furthur down. It has a 5 star review and is $26.95.

You will need a cinch hobble too if you have a flank girth.

Also a huge fan of the VenTech cinches.

Didn’t click on all of the links but I vote for the shoulder relief girth by Total Saddle. This was a game changer for my saddle placement and fit. I no longer need to worry about using a breast collar to avoid slipping and I can girth up much looser with secure placement, making my horses very happy. expensive, but I will never use anything else (unless technology improves even more!) https://totalsaddlefit.com/shoulderreliefgirth/

Just wondering, do any of these have the elastic inserts like the ones you find on English girths? Thanks.

The one in post 7 is elastic.

I use only mohair with brass fittings. My horse is allergic to anything synthetic and also stainless. I also like the mohair because it breathes, it’s soft, and is easy to clean.

I use this one - I like the non neoprene breathable “channels”

I might try that.

The AirFlex cinch rubbed a hole in my horse.

I really like a mohair cinch (alpaca works, too) with a round brass buckle.
Mine is a Bork #9 roper cinch like this one: http://www.borkandsons.com/roper.html
The buckles are round, hard to see in the photo, but they spread the contact and pull of the cinch really well.

I use leather latigos on both sides, though I have used a leather half-breed.

Between the mohair and the latigo, there is a natural amount of stretch and rebound that you don’t get from a neoprene cinch with a nylon core.

I do live in the desert, and it’s possible I might have use for a neoprene cinch in a wet climate…but I’d probably make arrangements for a dehumidifier in my tack room before I went to synthetics.
