The Big C! RIP Kim, see pg. 218

When hospice came to help, we were told by Drs, nurses, everyone it would be a week to ten days.
We were there for 4 1/2 months.
No one can say how terminally ill people may fare, when they will rally and again start failing.

I know. It just sucks having to watch it happen to your beloved family member.

Hospice brought a machine that concentrated oxygen, but we didn’t use it. It’s about the patient’s comfort.

When hospice first came to the house to talk to us, we thought we had a few weeks. But DH left within 6 days. It’s really up to the patient.

Wow, hospice was (mostly–one person a little less so but every other person) FANTASTIC.
They go over the DNR before you sign up. DH got to select which option of the living will he wanted. If someone picks NADA, then I guess that’ss what they go with. but hospice absolutely supported offering him whatever he wanted food and liquid wise which at the end, really wasn’t much. But just what Stryder said, that the body starts shutting down. We used mouth swabs in the last stages and he would clamp down on them.
The palliative care people were kind of a lead in to hospice–I thought they meant ā€œhospiceā€ but no. They come in at any point and are just awesome with the meds and getting people comfortable, whether or not one is getting treatment.
hospice was great at the end–paid for everything, whatever it took for him to be comfortable–special pillows, whatever. Doc came to the house and really went over where things where. Meds were delivered to the house.Everything was taken care of.

I guess it does vary–I didnt’ find hospice in Colorado helpful really at all, but I would definitely be sharing any experiences of a ā€œnasty nurseā€ doing hospice work. That seems really misguided.

We got O2 (husband really appreciated it) and he too was told he had about a month–was told that on a Thursday and died early the next Wed am (6 days also) He was ready, fought so hard but really ready.

We were already on oxigen, had been for several years, not provided by hospice because of that?

Okay this is becoming a depressing thread. I ain’t going anywhere for a while.
So sorry some have had bad experiences, Calista, there was something not right about that whole deal
So it is HOT! But hey it is summer. Got all my postings done this morning.
Funny, I do mostly rural areas, farm land, so it is lovely driving, and you see some fun things. and usually on the road alone. Saw 2 fawns in the road up ahead of me, I slowed way down, saw mom on the hillside, one fawn was at the edge the other ran across the road. I tooted my horn and the one across the street leaped up in the air and flew across the street to join sibling and mom. then stared at me as I drove slowly by. So nice to see live ones, I have seen 4 spotted fawn dead on the side of roads in the last week.
So further on down the road, is a family looking dairy farm, nice, well kept, pastures on both sides of the road, I am looking and see something black and white going I think into a pasture… as I get closer I realize it is the paved driveway to the peoples barn and house, and just sauntering up the driveway is this cow, moving with a purpose head swinging, going right up to the barn, I looked to the left at the pasture, large oak tree at the edge and several cows snoozing in the shade.
Could not see a break in the fence, no one else seemed at all interested. it was just a three strand wire.
I bet that girl does it a lot, I was half tempted to stop in and talk to the farmer, just saying I was concerned.
I have heard some cows are quite the characters, she wanted in and she knew where she was going.
I love stuff like that.
And One nice young man who is right near me, called me back twice, the first time I missed his call, he just called me again, to tell me he could not get to see me until Sat. morning as he was on a family vacation and would not be home till Friday night. Sounded very mature and professional, and hey he called me back.
Did a little weeding in the shade, I have been keeping up cause I am so picky about weeds in flower beds.
As for the sugar thing, My body is telling me no, And truthfully I am fine with that, I was feeling this was to some extent for several months, I do no think it has anything to do with one round of Chemo.
But I have never had a big sweet tooth anyway, I still like Yogurt, Go figure.
Good day today, the steroids are wearing off and I still feel okay.
And tomorrow Morning, I am off bright and early to see my favorite farmer lady at the local farmers market,
I have a feeling she will have some maters, Damn I will have a real BLT soon, Kim

Never mind sugary stuff, some of us don’t care for it anyway.
Now, salty, that I can eat all day.

Sounds like you are going to get tomatoes, fresh, real ones?
That would put a smile in anyone’s face.

Enjoying the summer already here. It’s supposed to be H O T this weekend- feels like over 100 degree weather!

Any big plans for the 4th? Asking because it’s my FAVORITE holiday!!! My friend has an open house/party and a parade goes past her house so it’s a fun day.

I wish I didn’t have a sweet tooth, it’s my downfall!!

I can’t wait for tomatoes!! The produce stand closest to me shut down so I’ll have to go to the farmers market soon. I want tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper, oh and some green onion. And a little drizzle of balsamic vinegar… my mouth is watering!!!

My flower bed has been inundated with weeds this year. I need to put some more mulch out and keep on weeding!!

It sounds like you have had a good day, Kim. Got a call back from a prospective lawn person. Who knows, maybe he’ll be nice to look at too. A little eye candy never hurts.

My dad has cows and chickens and he turns them all into big pets. The cows start bawling and come running every time he mows because they know he’ll give them the grass clippings. The chickens like to be be picked up and they go to sleep with their head under his arm.

Loving the cow story, Independent moo. Enjoy the BLT and, yeah, a big thanks from me, you’re helping me sift through a lot of tough stuff.

My husband and I saw two fawns this past weekend. I had never seen twins before. We have a doe and fawn that roam in back of pasture and they drive my welsh pony Oatie nuts. The minis don’t care one bit, but Oatie puts on quite a show. Lots of blowing, pawing, rearing and foot stamping goes on like he is a ā€œwild stallionā€ on a movie set. He’s twenty, I keep telling him he is too old for such shenanigans.
Hope you have a tomato filled weekend!

At our last house way out in the country there was a doe who had twins every year. I always assumed it was the same doe. Every year for the six years we lived there.
